Yes, I have the book and the video. That's why I posted that they were worth looking at.
I also have his "Passion Into Profits" video and workbook. I don't know if the "Hustle, Hustle" video is the same as the new(er) DVD, although I would imagine it is. Mike |

I've not been able to find any mention of it or copies for sale anywhere else on the Internet. It's a video of a course he did in 1993 for other magicians (among them was Larry Becker). It's a 4-video set with workbook. Like the "Hustle, Hustle" video/book, things are dated in this video set, and it ain't perfect. But the great thing about it is you have 7+ hours of Joel's training on video, which is pretty cool. I paid $125 for it. Best regards, Mike Posted: Feb 20, 2007 9:54am I meant to say that if anyone wants the "Passion Into Profits" video and workbook, I'll sell it for the same price - $125. (That includes postage anywhere.) Best regards, Mike |

Hi,
I was really interested in going to the Joel Bauer's training seminar until I found the price tag - 5K! Bond James Bond |

I really like Joel Bauer. He is one of my heroes. I just hate the "infomercial" theme he has with his newer stuff. It really rubs me wrong...
I guess I will start out with Seth Kramer's offering and go from there. I also just got a copy of "Corporate Presentations: Creative Magic for your Clients" by Leo Behnke. Does anyone have this? I had never heard of Mr. Behnke. Just started reading, and he seems to know what he is talking about. What do you guys think of him? |

That is my concern. We know he has made a lot of money doing what he does. So why is he teaming up with Dave Dee and going the infomercial route? Does he need the money?
I wouldn't want to be remembered that way....I would rather go out "on top" with legend status rather than a used car salesman doing infomercials. Just my two cents; not worth as much as Joel's, but still worth something I hope... |

The fact that he is with Dave Dee is hugely not a positive thing for his business.
Joel has obviously never seen the birthday party video of Dee. And the MP3 downloads on the link are a complete waste of time with gobby-dock- unorganization. He will say something really interesting, and then say, "We will get back to this," but never actually get back to it because he moves onto something else and forgets. It smells strange, so I'm not even bothering to look further; mention Dave Dee- I'm outta here. |

In other words, no trial and error. You come out with the information and know-how he has gained over his career. How much is that worth? Well, Bauer earns big bucks, 1 to 2 million a year. If he really delivers on his promise and gives you what you need to earn that kind of money, then $5,000 pales into insignificance. Of course, you almost certainly aren't going to make that kind of money your first year out, but from what I have seen of Bauer's materials (Magic Castle Lecture Video; Hustle, Hustle book and 4-DVD set; How to Persuade People Who Don't Want to Be Persuaded), he consistently over-delivers. He gives SERIOUS value. He does not hold back. He gives the real work, etc. As a result, I trust what he says. Remember: Bauer walks the walk. He is a magician, and he has made it big. He has actually done it! Not just talked about it - DONE IT! Moreover, he is an articulate and passionate teacher and a mesmerising performer. I find it inconceivable that one could not get $5,000 worth of value from spending 3 days with Bauer. In fact, I find it inconceivable that one could not get $500,000 worth of value from spending 3 days with him. When a pro of that caliber talks, it makes sense to listen. When he offers to show you how to do what he did, then signing up seems a no-brainer. Provided, of course, that you want to do what he did. Yes, I have signed up for the seminar. I have no other stake whatsoever, and I do not know any of the people involved in organising it. As for his association with Dave Dee, I have no opinion on that as I know nothing about Dave Dee or his products/services. In any case, the only speaker at the seminar will be Bauer, no one else. Personally, that's all I care about. Cheers, Carl |

$5000 US = $6500 Aussie
+ $2000 Airfares + $Accommodation + Food and taxi or buses from airport I can't see it happening for me, as much as I'd like to go. The fact that he sells to magicians, he makes it clear that "we" don't have that much money. Then he wants you to put down the 25 words why you should be accepted, and then whacks you with a price that is too much money. You either do one of the other, not both. If you want to restrict who does it, then that's the 25, or even 50, word description, but to have a price as well that pretty much says you have to be able to spend $8000 now. One thing that peeves me is that the course will teach us His trade show work, and the email I got says visitors get into the stand with open wallets. Now, I love the Joel Bauer stuff----BUT why do I have my wallet closed, and I'm thinking I don't want to open it that far? If he teaches how to open wallets, he should really film himself doing a video presentation on selling the course - the way he presents it at a trade show. No interviews (which are a waste of download time), he should demonstrate what he does. The main problem is he is selling on reputation alone. Not many people have actually seen him do a trade show (yes, some have, but not many). The last time he came to Australia, I was still learning double lifts. If I had that amount to freely spend, I probably wouldn't need to do the course. And a heck of a risk to travel over there. |

Honestly, running my own trade show exhibit, which has cost me thousands with some ongoing costs yet to be paid.
I have just bought my new Motor Scooter (I have always wanted one), so money is at a low at the moment. And I have mouths to feed, so $8000 is a huge chunk to do a course. Do I want to go???---YES, I DO. Do I have the budget? NO, I DON'T. It is too much money to learn how Americans do their infotainment when Australia is a different world. |

Sweetcarl,
I agree with you, but since I am also not from the States, the whole price tag I am looking at is more like 8K by the time everything is said and done... At this point, I am just not ready to fork out that kind of a dough. I have a 1-year-old son, and my wife is not working, so 7-8K is just bit too much for me - that's all. I am sure that the info given will be worth the money. I will wait for the DVDs (yes, it's being taped) - probably a LOT cheaper, and you still get the same information... I was also bit shocked to find out that, according to Jack Turk, the attendees will NOT get these in the price of the admission (Heck, you're "ONLY" spending 5K. In your case, probably much more if you are flying from Belgium, so adding the small cost of burning DVDs would be too unbearable for Dave??? Come on, Dave...) unlike Jay Abraham and other big marketing guys who include transcripts AND DVDs as a part of their high-priced seminars. They understand that the attendees just helped to create a valuable product for him that will be sold to others who wished to be there (like me) and couldn't, or didn't, want to open their wallet THAT WIDE - that's all. Believe me, you WILL want to go over everything in detail once you get back. I am sure that there is going to be tons of info given, and your wrist is usually dead from writing by the end of the first day... Anyway, I wish I could go. There is no question Joel is one of a kind. Let us know how it was - thanks! Cheers! Bond James Bond |

Another approach to learning the trade show biz:
Go to trade shows. Beg, borrow, or steal a badge. I've been doing trade show productions for a long time. You can always get into a show if you really want to. Walk the floor. Watch the sales pitches. See which ones make you stop. Watch other trade show magicians ply their craft. Ask questions. Take notes. Just don't pitch their clients. I have seen Joel Bauer perform at trade shows no less than 30 times. He is (or was) something to see. Learned a LOT from watching him. But I learned at least as much from watching many others, good and bad... There's a big show coming up in Vegas in April ... NAB. There are always a lot of working magicians at that show, as well as jugglers, comedians, and automatons on ear prompters. Walk the show. Watch the crowds. Check out their level of interest. What would you have done differently? It is a great training ground. (And round trip air to Vegas and a cheap hotel is a heck of a lot less than 5 large.....) Also, check out TSNN.com. It's a HUGE trade show resource. You can search under a wide range of criteria, and, I'm sure, find trade shows that are pretty close to home. Just my $.02 Good luck out there. Bronx |

So Joel's course will be offered on DVD? This seems like a no-brainer to me...
Let the 30 "lucky ones" go. Their wrists will hurt, and they will still probably end up purchasing the DVDs... Will they get their $5000 worth? Of course. But I would rather have Joel in the comfort of my home for a cheaper price, and under my control (remote). |

Has anyone heard of Card Tricks That Get the Money and the Patter That Gets the Bookings by Bill Derman? Someone recommended it to me as a trade show reference. Curious, has anybody seen it or heard of it?
