Dylan is a genius, catch him on a good night and he's great, catch him when he doesn't feel like performing and it is a drain.

You are right Santa, I've seen him at least a dozen times, some nights are better than others.
That version of "Baby Let Me Follow You Down", where he talks about "Ric Von Schmidt" is awesome. The harmonica on that tune is incredible. And Dylans vocals and guitar are excellent. RIP Ric.

I saw Dylan with Tom Petty at UC Berkeley and they were outstanding. I then saw him with the Dead at Candle Stick Park outside of San Francisco and it just dragged when Bob was on stage. I never met Bob but my sister in law (ex) shacked up with an old hippy poet who is close to Dylan going back 40 years and he has great admiration for him as a person beyond that as an artist.

Talk about a show that could go either way, a few years ago I went to see Dylan with Van Morrison. Talk about a couple of performers that can have the "odd off night".
Fortunately they were both at the top of their game (although Dylan was into his string tie/country thing again) It was a great night. I hope yours is as well.

I have used my harmonica for bits of business for many years.
My first college variety show featured me (with hair) standing on my head playing the harp and Jaw Harp. Last night I brought out my harmonica holder and did a Dylan Parody How many beans can a man choke down Before his friends walk away the answer my friend.. (oh you got way ahead of me) Anyone else use a harp/harmonica in their gigs? Harris "harpo" deutsch

I've been a Dylan fan since the 70's and have seen him dozens of times. Some Good, some not as good. But with Dylan; IT'S ALL GOOD. I must have had Blood on the Tracks in my player for 10 years, at one time. One of the BEST albums, EVER!
I even saw him at small joints; Café WA, Back Fence, Other End, Bottom Line and a couple of other places, that I can't seem to remember at this moment. Man, I'm getting old! I can't remember when I started loosing my mind?...But then again, they say if you can remember the 70's, you really weren't there! |

The first time I saw Dylan was in Ann Arbor High School auditorium in 1965. I was in my first year at U of M. I didn't have a ticket so I stood in the back for most of the first half of the show. The second half I got a seat right down front; I could see every twitch.
He had some new material that night that hadn't been recorded yet: "All I Really Want to Do" and "It's All Right Ma." There was a party later and a lot of rumors floating around that Dylan would be there but he never showed up. We got drunk and stoned without him |
