Hey gang!

I am including a "Recommended Reading List" in my book, Theatrical Magic - The Book. What books are on your "must read" list for bizarrists, story tellers, etc?

NO question Jim Magus' 'Midnight In The Dark Museum' is a keeper on that score.

Capricornian Tales is a must!
What man knows he calls Science
What he has yet to learn he calls Magick
Both are real!

Besides the tomes already listed, I would add: 'Tricks of the Imagination' by Robert E. Neale, 'Brain Food' by David Parr, 'Pentalogy' by R. Shane, '13 Steps to Mentalism' by Corinda, 'The Howling Man' by Charles Beaumont, The Stories and Poems of Edgar Allan Poe, 'The Complete Invocation', 'The October Country' by Ray Bradbury, 'Strange Wine' by Harlan Ellison, Anything by M.R. James, Arthur Machen, Lovecraft, the October 2000 edition of Genii (Tony Andruzzi issue), Vo Du Magick by Baba Gede Nibo, 'Seance' by Scott-Moore Davis, the pre-code horror comics of EC Publishing (Tales from the Crypt, Shock Suspenstories, Vault of Horror), 'The Nightmare Factory' by Thomas Ligotti, 'The Collected Stories of Richard Matheson', the stories of Richard Christian Matheson (his son), 'Cinema Panopticum' by Thomas Ott, the cartoons of Charles Addams and Gahan Wilson and...okay, I'll stop.

Ian Rowlands advice for mentalists on his website. I'm sure it may offend a few but he is "telling it like he see it."

The works of Tony Shiels have had a big impact on me. Especially Cantrip Codex, a copy of which "found me" in a very surrealistic fashion Tony would be proud of!

I will second Hendoo's suggestions and add anything by H.H. the Dalai Lama. A lot of you don't want to hear about the deeper spiritual stuff, but folks, that's where we come from and I think that's where we should be going (just ask Baba).

Ok, in addition to that, let me offer:
THE YOGA OF TIME TRAVEL, by physicist Fred Alan Wolf
THE BOOK OF WEREWOLVES, by Sabine Baring-Gould
THE BOOK OF VAMPIRES, by Dudley Wright

It all began somewhere! There was a time long ago before fake blood and Victorian parlor games, when wo/man stood in awe of the universe...oh wait we still ARE in awe of the universe...nevermind!

Seance edited by Scott Davis and then modestly my stuff which is in the process of be re-published in one big thing as The Bigger Book of BOO. (First stuff I've reworked or released since the 80's and mid 90's.)

Also, all of Jim Magus's early stuff (you've got to remember that Midnight in The Dark Museum is the first new release from Jim in 10 years.)

Then for real background on doing seance or ghost hunts as I usually refer to them, Mediums of the 19th Century (Vol 1 & 2) by Podmore.

What is your book about? Why are you posting this in the bizarre forum?

Just wondered-

...The best lack all conviction, while the worst are full of passionate intensity...
