I want to vanish a silver cane into silver confetti. What sort of confetti would you recommend using?

You can get mylar confetti at most party stores that carry wedding supplies.

What you DON'T want to do is take mylar shreds and cut them up. I have done that to make silver confetti, and it gets all charged with static electricity and will stick to EVERYTHING like it has been glued to it.

The best thing to use is large loose silver sequins. They are available at craft stores or the arts & crafts section of stores like Wal-Mart. I use these as part of my Zombie vanish and it is very pretty and easy to clean up.

Take aluminum foil and cut it with scissors. Make about 1 " squares as it is more visible on stage.

I do a cane to confetti in one of my routines. Mine is a blue cane to blue mylar confetti.
I bought some 2" by 100' rolls of metallic blue mylar ribbon (party supply stores), and cut it into 1/2" by 1/2" pieces (approx.). I prepare baggies full of mylar confetti at home, to take with me. I got an extra paper funnel at a local gas station (for use in putting oil into your engine). Free. Sometimes you have to cut the bottom hole a bit larger in the funnel. Super handy for preparing it, combined with a wand or pencil, to stuff. You can even flatten this funnel, to pack and take it with you. - Donald P.S. Mylar ribbon is a heavier weight than the mylar strips, and therefor a little less trouble to work with. Still a little bit of static cling, though. Won't crumple up like aluminum foil.

And now for the poor Texan variation: I use a Fantasio with 2 2" by 6 foot streamers: one in cap/one in tip. The streamers are striped in nice muted pastel colors.
In the days after Easter (coming up soon!) you can buy the bags of pastel colored, pre made paper conffetti (supposed to be for kid baskets) at Wal Mart for .25 a bag on post-holiday closeout sale. This also matches (roughly) the colors in my color change neck scarf, my mouth coils and I use it inside a balloon that pops. I do each of these in virtually every show and I have confetti to last for the next couple years at this rate. I bought about 20 bags.
"What's your drug?" she asked. "Hope" he said, "The most addicting one of all."
