Perhaps a roman style sword fight such as the one lance Burton did, where the bad guy defeats the good guy(magician) only to find out the bad guy was the magician all along. also a roman style de kolta chair would work well, many posibilities.
Its not what you do, but how you do it.

Producing rose pedals while the Emp. Caesar walks.
Produce a tiger (not sure how big ya wanted to go) Color changing Toga Dove pan producing fruit Coin pal - producing coins for the Emp You could do a whole bit with Caesar sitting there while people are producing various gifts for him or trying to entertain him. Could also be some comedy in there with the entertainment act (tricks that don't produce what they should, etc.). Have a beautiful production of flowers for him. Produce silks, roman coins, fruit and if they don't meet his approval then they can be vanished. Have a dancer come in and dance for him, cover her with a blanket and vanish her at the end. Produce multiple white doves.

Hey Blair!
If you want to go on the gory side a bit, how about just "Head on a spear"... Not much to do except look at it and talk to it, but it still is an interesting illusion. Have a nice day! Louis Jutras |

It's Saturday night, it's been a long week, and my brain isn't working all that well, however... I'll put in my five cents' worth (that's two cents adjusted for inflation)...
The term "Roman" covers a lot of territory, from the founding of Rome all the way to the collapse of the Empire, something like eight or nine hundred years. What we usually associate with "Roman" is Julius Caesar, the legions, the persecution of the Christians (including the shows at the Colosseum and the crucifixions), and Caligula. Constantine has just about been buried in the transition to the Roman Catholic faith. But there was a lot more to the Roman empire, such as the wonderful engineering (the water viaducts which stand to this day), good architecture (including the Pantheon), the bad copies of Greek statues, and the order and organization of the Empire. Usually lost, too, is the connection between Julius, Marc Antony, and Cleopatra: a wonderful tie-in with late-dynasty Egypt. I love the idea of the statues coming to life, but I think there needs to be more history behind this, like who the statues were and why they came to life. Certainly one of the gods (Bacchus?) could come to life and do something with wine, but a statue of Cleopatra could also come to life and search for Marc Antony or Julius Caesar. Or her mummy could come to life... Look in the history books. There's a lot of material there.

Brett's Atlas Globe girl Production was originally VERY Roman looking but about 2 weeks into the show the people thought the girl was just coming out of the atlas figure, so we redesigned it and made it more broken statue and metal frame.
He also did a spinning zombie ball of a smaller atlas globe. some Ideas for you Venus Demilow(sp? it's late) but you add the limbs back on one buy one (maybe the hand comes to life) and as you add the head she becomes "Real" a Bacchus routine with wine production and a buffet of food. produce not a horse but Centaurs a girl production out of a giant clam shell (Venus on the half shell) levitating horse (Pegasus) OR even better bring a kid from the audience and half them ride/fly around on pegasus Cherubs lift you up and fly you away! Don't forget to use "Pines of Rome" as music for this (for those of you not with Culture(joking) it's the song in Fantasia 2000 with the flying Whales) |

"Venus on the half shell"??????
Not only was it late, but what did you eat? (LOL) I believe in Arnold Furst's "Programs of...." he has a photo of a girl on a pagasus, not going to look it up, but I think it was in John Calvert's show. BM

HAHAHAHAha!
It's called "Birth of Venus" (where she is in the large shell) that funny , I had just finished a very long 3 show (circus) day , and apparently was hungry, LOL. a girl levitates on a fountain (of Rome, it's a song) Gladiator turns into a lion (or a Christian) make a kids shoe vanish, put put wings on them first like Hermes, have a the audience give you something to predict, and the shoe reappears with your prediction. Use that hanging chest/table thingy. for comic relief hang a talking bust (mirror table) (I love the never ending wine vase idea, no one does that trick any more and with the right props it would look beautiful!) Larry Ps. Some day I will tell you where to get a Real Unicorn, (not Joking) and you can produce that! |

PPs Hanz Ferrari has a broken and visibly restored singed vase. Talk to him.
I personally found the bit cheesy, but in the right hands it I know it could be a masterpiece. Larry |

Hey, guys, not to sound like Professor Theadbare on steroids or anything...
You need to be careful with some of this stuff. Pegasus was Greek, not Roman. Okay, so it's a detail, but remember the audience will see the entire show as being you, and you don't want the people in the audience who know the difference to get distracted by something like this and have it lessen your credibility.

One could of course draw inspiritation from the new 300 movie, but that might be better suited to a different section here at the Café
