How I end my routine is that I ask if anyone is alergic to peanutbutter and if someone says they are I say wow me to and show them both have turned to jelly. If no one says they are alergic I say I am and do the same thing.

I have read Bruce's routine and I love it. I can tell by Kyle's post that he has not read it. But knowing Kyle from his posts throughout the Café I know if he read it in it's entirety he would love it also.

Sorry guys. I was not referring to Bruce's post. My apologees. I got it confused with a different post. My mistake. Let me go back and re-read the thread and the routine and get back to you. Once again, sorry for the confusion.

I really like it but I got tired of hearing "I've seen this one before" so many times. And then the telling of what happens next (I even got this one one the vanishig ketchup bottle last show, now he smashes the bag). Usually, its the kid that won't stop disrupting the entire show. That is another topic for another thread.

On the Jelly jar, some have stated they have painted the inside of the jar. I was wondering do you spray paint it or use some type of brush? It seems that it would be hard to do either. Any one that has done this can you help with the method of painting the inside?

If your magic table has a shelf underneath it you can load the tubes at the end of the regular routine with "Goober Grape" wcich is a PB & J mix in one jar and with a jar of "Fluff". Imagine the possibilities.

S. Patrick. That is a great idea and one I have played around with. The idea of doing a final load from the table. You have perfect misdirection and it could make for a killer ending and also a comical one. Very creative thinking. Thanks for sharing and I look forward to seeing you this Saturday.

Steve,

You just empty the jar of jelly and clean it out real well. Let it dry and use flat black spray paint. Just spray it inside. Some will drip down, that's okay. Spray it again and again if necessary. Let it dry and place cap back on.

Looks great and soooo much better to transport!

I do this as a "Look-Don't-See" multiple switches at the end routine. The first few switches are the obvious ones that the kids don't buy and really gets them going. I then say that "I really have never been able to do this trick" when the "Look-Don't-See" multiple switches take place. Then after I work them into a frenzy, I look down and see they have actually switched places and thank the children for doing some great magic and making the trick work! A very fun routine that gets a good reaction.

Best advice - get Ken Scott's "Making The Birthday Dough" DVD. His show includes his PB&J routine. You can see how kids react to it in the real world - it cracks me up when I watch it!

It's an excellent "idea generator" (don't rip his routine off mind, or I'll hunt you down!)

Kind regards
Mike

I like and have been thinking of using the covers as a sort of chip cup idea. Meaning, I would love to do some sort of final load with the cylinder cover. It is perfectly easy to do since you are in that position anyways and you have the misdirection needed. I am just wondering what would be a good load that would make sense or just be funny or unexpected. I will have to run this through some of my brainstorming exercises that I do. If anyone also has ideas, just let me know.

Kyle,
Great idea about a final load in the cannister covers. Depending on how you do your routine, how about a glass of milk for your P,B & J sandwich.

Ken? Hmm that is not a bad idea at all and makes sense. I just would hate to use liquid in a show. I do so many outdoor performances at festivals, that it might cause a problem, unless the glass is rigged with a cover of some sort. I like your thinking on this though. I wonder if there are other ideas that could work as loads that would make sense to the end of the trick.

Perhaps maybe something can be produced like a stuffed animal or soemthing saying that the problem with PB and J's is that I never get a chance to eat them.. because such and such (produce object) eats them before I do. Just an idea.

I think you have plenty of misdirection to do a jumbo load appearance using the covers as shells. I just wonder what object would be creative and fun.

Glass of milk: How about a double wall glass (sealed) with imitation milk (similar to that used in the Milk Pitcher illusion) that doesn't spoil. I have an email address of the magician who manufactures both the milk picture and imitation milk if you need it. He probably could modify a glass to your specs if needed.
Stuffed Animal Production: Might be a good way to introduce a "Rocky Racoon" type character. Or stretching -- maybe the Axtell Drawing Board with a routine that "he ate the sandwich".

I tried the Bruce Bray routine recently and loved it!!! So did the kids!!! You really have got to try the routine.

As to painting the jars - DON'T . . . all you have to do is clean them out and fill each one with a black trash bag - it looks just like jelly to the audience.

Ken:

Thank you for some nice and creative ideas for adding a final load to the PB and J routine. It also is a nice way as a transition into the next routine. Nice thinking. If you produce rocky or a stuffed animal you can always say that wherever there is food you always find your best friend and then produce the final load.

T.House. Great idea with the black plastic trash bag! It looks good. I was going to try painting them, but the bag looks very good. Even adds some texture. Thanks for that Great tip. It works.

Yeah, the garbage bag works pretty nicely and the added texture does add to the overall appearance of the piece. It beats trying to paint them all the time.
