This was originally posted elsewhere, but I thought it might be more appropriate for this forum:
A friend and I have discussed putting on a stage show as a fundraiser for a local junior high school chorus. To quote the chorus director, they "aren't even a line item in the school's budget". The show will most likely take place in the fall of 2007 to give us time to put together something special. When I have performed with someone else, it was usually a "my stuff, his stuff" type of show, where one person performs, then another, etc. I would like some ideas on blending our two repertoires into a single show. Do you have any ideas on generic transitions, where one of us could "hand off" the show to another via dialogue, introductions, dual performers, etc.? What about things that are especially suited to two performers? Next, we would like to use the chorus itself during the show, maybe as background music on a few things or even to sing an introduction. Have you ever seen this done? What types of effects could be easily adapted to live junior high chorus accompaniment? The obvious one would be a "twist" song (or maybe something from Grease) with Twister. Between us, we do a lot of the standards with rings, ropes, cards, etc. Besides Twister, things like Modern Art, Sidekick, Kub Zag, some sort of appearance (Flash or otherwise), Lester Lake head chopper, Sword through Neck, Kuma Tubes with umbrella productions, or Victory Carton illusions are possibilities. We might even be able to prepare some sort of penetration illusion. We are also open to adding new things if something really jumps out at us. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

I did mount a show for the S.A.M. here in Montreal where we used the school band, behind a scrim, to back several of the acts.
If you can use the Chorus as "extras" for the Twister, they could be sitting around a soda shop, (decor: a sign, chairs and tables). You know what you do. Perhaps they have a couple of numbers which could be incorporated into the same number. ie. several songs, several effects. Does the chorus do all sorts of music, or just "today's" hits. Anyway, I am sure you will get some good ideas here! Blair Marshall "ShaZzam!" As a bit of by play with your co-magician, what about a face-off, a tongue in cheek challenge between the magi???

Do a levitation, or Asrah, with the chorus signing Ave Maria .
Or have them sing Manmana (Muppet song) while you guys do some sort of wacky act! But always remember when they are singing you are NOT Talking, and time it out so that choreographed to the music/song. (hire somebody if you have to!) Larry |

THe chorus is always looking for something different to sing. They are ninth-graders, but they are surprisingly good. I talked with their director this morning at church, and he is interested in pursuing the idea further.
There is a list of magic-themed somgs here: http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......forum=11 Maybe some of these will be suitable for them.
