After having bought Larry Barnowsky's "21st Century Coin Mechanics" a while ago - I settled on perfecting "Copper Silver by Brute Force" - the quickest effect in the book.
Whilst performing at a large table/walkaround event in London thsi week, I have to say that it was the only effect that I ended up doing at each table. The plot around the copper-->Silver transposition immediately gets people's attention: "....I'm now going to combine two things you never hear used together - Magicians and Quantum Physics..." and the effect can be used to entertain 2 to about 6/8 people depending on seating arrangements. Whenever I do this I'm still amazed about the angle-proof-ness of the FCOP, and Ross Bertram change. Recommend this one highly, now the mainstay of my close-up/walkaround - completely entertaining, completely angle-proof, magical, and fun to perform. Best - Bruce |

I agree Bruce. Copper Silver By Brute Force is a real worker for me too. The Bertran transfer move which was buried and poorly described in Stars of Magic is taught by Larry very clearly with stop action photos. The Flying Changeover Palm (FCOP) is my favorite move from the book. Many uses, virtually angle proof, and worth the effort to learn. Add to that some incredible retention vanishes and visible coin changes and you get an idea of the gems you can find in his book.

I use the FCOP constantly to show "clean hands", and even in my coins across. It's an amazing move.
If you like the FCOP, also look into Platt's Fanning Pitch move, on his DVD Catapult! Scott. |

The FCOP and the Bertram Changeover move work very well together. The FCOP moves the coins secretly from left to right and the Bertram transfers them from right to left. The hand motions are almost mirror images of each other. Brute Force and Boomerang Coins (my favorite coins across) both use these two moves.

Hi Joshua,
The FCOP (Flying Changeover Palm) is a powerful utilty move that is taught in my book along with about a dozen other sleights which are not available anywhere else. I've used it successfully for many years and consider it a core move. Considering the cost of e-books and stapled manuscripts, you get a hardcover book with 300+ black and white photos teaching over a a dozen new sleights and 11 completely scripted routines. A companion Video CD I sell at my cost to book buyers. Magicians have different styles and tastes and not everything in my book will satisfy everyone. Some have said to me that the URV (Universal Retention Vanish) was worth the price of the book. Others say the same about the FCOP and the Double Helix Change. To help you get off the fence, I'll make this proposal to you Joshua. Buy the book. If you hate it or find nothing of value in it, send it back and I'll give you a 100% refund. Best, Larry |

You WON'T be returning it, that much I'd bet. Josh, that book is in my TOP 5 most valuable magic books.
The URV (Universal Retention Vanish) is the one move in this book I found to be my favorite. In comparison, I would have paid Mickey Silver the price of this book to teach me HIS version of the Retention Vanish, but now that's not necessary! The Flying Change Over Palm is another unique move so necessary in todays coin work. I hope Larry continues to offer the CD-ROM, with all the MPEG videos of the various sleights and moves. That helped me IMMENSELY! If Larry still has them, ask about those 7 Mace, 2 Candareen, Szechuan Chinese coins. They are AWESOME! Sorry to ramble. I just can't say enough good things about this book! Told you man! Applying the moves to your older routines and new routines that you will create is the best part of having that book. Applying Larry's methods to my own style and hand size/structure was also fun.
Thanks Larry! Rannie

Rannie summed it up pretty good. A toolbox of moves that you can use in any of your own routines and see those tools applied in the second half of the book in great routines.
