Hi,all
What type of trick is Paul Harris' "Shuffling lesson"? I favoritely perform "Biological shuffle" in my repetoire, Paul's trick I believe. Are these the same effect?

Shuffling Lesson is a do as I do effect by Chad Long. The deck is divided in half. The spectator follows your directions. At the end, you deal four Kings, but the spectator deals four Aces. It is one of my favorite opening card effects. It plays very strong.

Cataquet,
Is that effect not Paul Harris'? In other topic of this forum,"The shuffling lesson"was mentioned as Paul's trick.

It appears in one of Paul Harris books but the effect is great. Seemengly impossible action leads to an amazing finish. They'll swear you did not control the other half.

This trick is difficult to follow up and I use it as my closer. The response is extremely strong and, in my opinion, the best "spectator cuts and turns over the aces" version there is. The spectator shuffles, cuts, mixes, and finds the four of a kind without you touching the cards. It is that good. It takes guts to perform, requiring lots of audience management.

Thank you, Cataquet, Pavlo and Risto.
I will get Paul's book and learn that trick. By the way, what do you think of "The Biological Shuffle"?

Chad Long's Shuffling Lesson is also in "Magic For Dummies" I think.

Fun and when acting as a complete amazement it plays well. To make the long story short, get Paul Harris Trilogy and thank me later.

Going through some old "linking ring" magazines, I noticed "shuffling Lesson" was in Chad's "one man parade".

You can also get it in his notes which are full of excellent material.

This was re-released as a Penguin Download. I have done this in the past, but what happens sometimes (more frequently than I'd like) is that the participant doesn't shuffle as instructed. It is just too easy to shuffle more than one card at a time. If they don't follow your instructions perfectly, the whole thing falls apart.
So, a comment and a question. Comment: First, I start by explaining how Vegas dealers learn to shuffle. This tends to get them to be more precise. Then, if they mess it up, then I do a different routine that uses half the deck and shuffled cards, like an impromptu OOTW. Question: How do you handle this? Unfortunately this was not explained in early descriptions of this effect, nor in the Penguin Download. KJ |

Is there any new work on the effect in this new download that Chad hasn't already put out there before?
I notice it says you can do it with a borrowed deck. Wondering if he really digs into the work on this in the download, or if he just says something along the lines of "do a quick c**l, pinkie c***t and double undercut."
Now appearing nightly in my basement.

The routine is in "Secrets of the Astonishing Executive" under the section "Astonishing Friends". Also it's in "Art of Astonishment Volume 3" page 299.

I believe it's also an Easter egg on the AOA video set.

It is on the TA video set, and the presentation by Jeff McBride on there is quite nice.

IMO, it would be best to set up the deck as part of showing another routine, such as Oil&Water. You could get eight oil&water cards to the top and in the process, perhaps changing your mind about what cards to use, set up for this effect at the same time. KJ |
