I have Vern the Bird (With Arm Illusion), Possum, and Old Man puppets and drawing board (regular and remote controlled) from Axtel. I wanted to get some voice/cds but I did not know if I should get the wide open or character voice specific cds for these particular puppets and items.
I would appreciate any recommendations and/or opinions and any recommendations as to which routines I should get on CDs from Axtel. Thank you very much. Michael

I use my drawing board with the cd from Nathan Roberts. It is about half way down on this site. http://www.nathanjroberts.net/view/?pageID=296011
He also has a birthday cd that I use also. Both are very good. I have heard several of the cd's from axtell and they are good also but I liked this one better for the drawing board. |

I saw this on his site. Why do you prefer this CD over Axtel's CD. I did not see teh birthday CD.
Thank you very much for your help. Michael

Hi Michael,
I use a few of the Axtrax CD's. When I first started using them I was really unsure how the kids would react. I was worried about being able to pause it if I had too. I've been using them now for about 2 years and love them. For the draing board I use four different tracks, Art'O'Magic, Houdini (my favourite), Birthday cake and the christmas track. I brought Vern the bird two weeks ago with two of the tracks, The hiccups and The rope trick. I've edited them both to make one slightly longer track. If you buy them, it will be worth getting hold of an audio editing program and editing the tracks to suit you. There will be things being said which might not suit your style, and you might want to edit the gaps for your voice to either short or longer gaps. The things that Steve Axtell says don't always suit my style, so I say something different which might take longer or shorter. The only one I didn't really have to change was Houdini, apart from the gaps slightly. You can see my first ever time of using Houdini here, http://video.yahoo.com/video/play?vid=f0......%3DUTF-8 It's loats better now that I've had the chance to use it a hundred or more times. I've said it before on here, if I could vent I wouldn't use the tracks, but unfortunately, I just cannot vent. Wish I could but I can't. |

Billy,
Thank you VERY much for your comments and suggestions. I do not think that I ill be getting an editing machine but perhaps I can try to edit it myself using less sophisticated means. I cannot vent myself except when I am venting my frustration to my wife. Thanks for your help and I will be getting the ones you recommended. Michael

Michael,
I saw Nathan perform this routine and that is why I am bought a drawing board and starting doing the routine now. When I bought the drawing board, I bought all three axtell cd's (Houdini was not available) and I ended up sending them back. I thought Nathan's had a lot more into it. More music, speaking, etc. I saw axtell at Kidabra last year and his new axtell tracts are better then the older cd's for the drawing board. This is my opinion and not meant to talk bad about axtell's products. My personal taste, I liked Nathan's. I am saving money to buy a certain puppet from axtell with one of his axtell tracts after seeing him perform it last year at Kidabra. Tim Quote: On 2007-02-20 13:06, magicinsight wrote: |

I use the hiccups and jingle bells wide open tracks from axtell. They are both very popular with my audiences. The hiccups routine is guaranteed to get lots of laughs - I have performed it well over 130 times this past year and it is a riot of laughter! I just performed it today actually, and as usual, it was great.
I like the wide open tracks because of the difference voices, but there are some routines that are character specific that are only available for that character - those are also good - I would go with some of each depending on your puppet. |

Hey Billy. I saw your video. Looks great. I'm just wondering, I didn't see you start the CD. When did you press the play button? Do you have a remote that you use or what? Are you able to stop the CD track in the middle of the routine?

Yes I have a tiny remote both on my left and right. If I need to pause it I can, although I rarely nead too, I think I've only ever stopped it twice in hundreds of performances.
