I found this video of one of my favourite rollercoasters at my favourite amusement park Cedar Point.

Don't you hate when that happens?

I've seen Top Thrill Dragster not make it over the hill and come back to the loading station, but I have never seen it stuck at the top. Would have been a nice view though.

I'm 6'8 and am now careful which rollercoasters I ride because I have to twist my legs into uncomfortable postions sometimes and I 'm not willing to do that anymore. If I was on that my legs would probably start cramping and a 30 sec. ride isn't worth it.

This is a guess, but an educated one. I have been studying and teaching roller coaster physics for years...
Those rides that rely on compressed air for a launch up a big hill, fire just the right amount to air to get the train to just over the top of the hill. The train is weighed in the station as it is loading up, and so slight differences in weight due to different passenger sizes is accounted for. What is not accounted for is the wind. If the train is approaching the top of the tower, with just enough speed to clear it, a good gust of wind could push it back or stop it. At Knottsberry farm they took out the very well named coaster "Windjammer" for just that reason. It is important that the train just creap over the hill, for two reasons, one is the physical stress a high speed up and over would put on the body, and second, everyone would rather see it get stuck now and then rather then flying off the track. The same physics stress that would effect the body would also effect the wheel housing. This ends tonights exciting chapter of "The science corner"

Just delayed the pleasure as long as possible, it seems! The anticipation is half of getting there.
An excellent lesson in life and love.

Bill, the Blue Streak at Cedar Point was my first coaster. We lived just off of the Point Causeway so CP was a regular stop for us. I even worked in the Ballroom through my senior year. Haven't been there in 20+ years. I'll bet I wouldn't know the place!

At least they were not hanging upside-down like me and my Daughter were a few years ago at the Evergreen State Fair in Washington.
We were riding a ride similar to the Octopus but this one would gradually get you in an inverted position. It was in the inverted position when everything froze and the ride had to be terminated and the ride attendant (with the help of several others) had to manualy turn each bucket right-side up so we could exit. My Daughter thought it was cool but I did not. With the blood rushing to fill the void in my skull (not much grey matter) my head started to feel very heavy. I was very relieved when we were finaly rescued. Iven

Cliff, just to note that Top Thrill Dragster works not on air but on magnetic propulsion. But the other facts still apply.

Wow! I remember the roller coaster here fondly called the space shuttle. We had the thrill of riding it 7 times in a row, nonstop, and I fell asleep. lol But being in that situation, I guess I'd be praying for my life. Hahaha.

Mrs. Santa's friend was at Marriots in Santa Clara, Ca. with her cousin. They were in a coaster where you hang your legs down or something. They came around a corner and the friends cousin knee collided with a fellow reaching for his caps head, he was killed, she had her knee basically explode.
