Greetings. Somewhere on the net I read a review of Sean Fields' X-Rated that compared one of the tricks in it to Derren Brown's Mental Force. I love performing DB's Mental Force but I was wondering if someone can fill me in as to what they mean? Cause right now that's the only reason I want to by X-Rated.

I know this is an old post, but I own the book and am not familiar with Derren Brown's Mental Force. What does it have to do with?

The advantage of Sean’s effect is that you can select your card at the beginning of the effect and be certain that the spectator will end up with the same card at the conclusion of the effect; in Derren’s ‘Invisible Deal’, you either have to introduce a card part of the way through the proceedings, or select a card at the start of the effect and risk having to change your mind later on. However, Derren’s effect is extremely clean; the spectator’s choices are, for the most part, genuinely free and fair, and at no point until the closing moments of the effect does the spectator have to tell you which cards are being eliminated and which are being kept. For what it’s worth, I prefer Derren’s effect, and if you already know that effect then I would not recommend buying ‘X-Rated’ for the sake of 'Out of Sight, Out of Mind' alone (although that's not to say, of course, that it's not worth buying for the other effects that it contains). It can be found in Derren’s book ‘Pure Effect’ (where it’s called a verbal card force), and also on his DVD ‘The Devil’s Picturebook’.

If you like DB's verbal forces than you should really check out another Sean. Surname Waters. The book "Ponderings" contains some material that I have found, in usage, to be extremely dependable.
http://www.watersmindworks.com Just what you are probably looking for and priced way too low for the content. Not slagging Sean off, just letting you know that if you pick this up you would get mucho bang for the buck. DT3 |
