Just thinking out loud.
I believe that Contimental is a great effect. It has however, some restrictions. Like the Balducci levitation it is best to do it for one person at a time. The reason is, that after one or two the people who don't participate in the 'test' will realize "well what's left?" What else do they have to do? Unlike the spectator who has to think about the country, imagine things writen big and vivid, look you in the eyes Etc... On the stage it is a nice trick. Over the phone it is a miracle You have more freedom when doing this over the phone for making mistakes. After all, you can't even look him in the eyes!!! Distance has nothing to do with telepthy {in a scientific sense} But people don't know that. They think that reading minds at a distance is more difficult. About pumping: you should have a silent script along the lines of: "What's going on? I usually get that once!!" Etc.. I mean, I don't think it's a great idea to sell the naming of leters as somthing standard, like it's happening like that every time. Oh no! And you should also choose your spectator carefully. Not someone who reads the Blocking section in Ian Rowland's Full Facts Book of Cold Reading... Personally I like to make it apper as if I was just thinking out loud. And you could also bark {after you already know the country}: "don't say anything!! I'm trying to concentrate..." By that time it will be a little late... Just my thoughts, Yaniv Deautsch. |

There are some great points here Yaniv. Out of interest, what is the most popular choice of country when you perform this in Israel?
How do you think it would differ from an American spectators response? |

Please read my post regarding thought of cards.
You will understand why i didn't gave you my list of thought of countries. Yaniv Deautsch ps.Is there a reason for using nicknames here? It's easier to remember real names. |

Small note: A certain Andy has written some thoughts on presenting Contimental (and anagrams in general) in his Shared Thoughts column in the on-line Visions magazine.
