Charles Gauci has some nice ideas about card stacks at http://www.charlesgauci.com.
His "Reputation Makers" lecture notes has his 15 minute No Mnemonic Memorized card system which is really sweet.
check it out

Barrie Richardson's "Any Card at Any Number"and "Do you want to continue?"are great effects using memorized stack.
They are explained in his book "Theatre of Mind".

My opinion is that the JOYAL STACK is very good. Its easy to learn and easy to keep in mind. Martin Joyals book; "The Six Hour Memorized Deck" teach you almost everything about memorizing a deck in a stack order.
There are several great effects in this book.

Try to find in english, the classic book: "Sinfonia en Memnonica Mayor", by Juan Tamariz.

Also, if you can´t, try the Martin Joyal´s book. It´s great.

Belive me, Pablo, there are many people who are waiting for the English version of this book! Stephen Minch is said to be working on it, and may even have it on magic store shelves before the year is out.

As of this writing, though, it hasn't been translated. There is some video work on his stack available though A-1, however.

Scott i believe you, since this book is great. All of us know Tamariz as cardician, and he is a very good cardician, so his book and his memorized deck, is very good too.

I hope the english version could be ready soon, for you to enjoy this great book.

Also if there are any magicians who speak spanish, i could recommend another great book about memorized deck. It was made by a great young magician called Daniel DaOrtiz, and the name of the book is "Mi Baraja Personal". He was disiciple of Juan Tamariz, and has prepared a great book too, with a memorized deck.

All the best magic,

Juan Tamariz shows his stack on vol. 2 of his video set. He shows one effect on this video for a memorized deck. This one effect is worth the price of the tape.

Which is the name of the effect? And which videotapes are you talking about?

Juan Tamariz has a series of videos out called, "Juan Tamariz: Lessons in Magic". The memorized deck effect on Vol. 2 is "Four of a Kind".

In this effect, someone slides a card out without looking at it. The magician then announces he will try to divine the three matching card of the same value. He turns over the first card and it's a (say) 6. He turns over a second card, and it's (say) a King - not a match. The third card is different from both of them, it's a (say) 9! The magician is distressed that things aren't going right, and turns all three cards back face down and closes the spread.

The performer then asks to see the face of the selected card, and it doesn't match ANY of the three previously shown. The magician resolves this dilemma by snapping his fingers and spreading the deck, and now the three cards matching the selected one are now face-up!

Juan also has a memorized deck routine on "A-1 All Stars, Vol. 3".

Having been given just a taste of the potential of his stack, I can't wait to see his book!

The trick you named above, "Four of a Kind", also appears in his book "Sinfonica en Memonica Mayor", but under the name of "Buñuelos de Viento".
