Has anyone here seen when Derren Brown is doing his street Mentalism w/ people and their fingers? He has someone stick up a number of fingers either behind their back or in their jacket pocket and correctly tells how many they've chosen.
I'd really love to be able to perform this. Does anyone know where I can learn this? Is it pre-show work? What is this? Thanx!

Hmmm....Well, it seems no one so far has told me that this effect has roots in this or that. No one has said "yes, there is pre-show work". Or said anything about it really. Can I assume that DB's "How many fingers?" trick is actually Body Language Reading effect?

Is it really that hard to work out how the guy with a film crew, other traind magicians on set and access to state of the art electronic signaling equipment does what he does?
Leave him to it... he's doing a fine job. Just come up with your own routines and effects and stop trying to be someone who is already the best version of him there is. |

But I'm sure you know that all kinds of new routines have roots in older routines. People are always coming up w/ their own version of so and so's effect. Maybe I would do the say w/ this finger trick someday. By the by, I was watching DB's Something Wicked this way comes show. It's amazing! But you know he was doing routines that have also been around forever. He did a great version of "Kurotsuke" that I thought was very well thought out and the second half of the show was OLD OLD Sideshow tricks like the Human-Blockhead and Walking on Glass.
