Anything for a buck, I guess. Magic isn't the only business where this happens. I bought a Rolex in New York City once right on the street from a briefcase...at least it was only $30 and I could tell it was a knock-off because the second hand didn't move smoothly like real ones do. |

Update...
Since my last post in March, I have finally received my David Roth Okito Box set! The set is made up of three different boxes: a standard Okito box, A Slot box, a Boston box, one lid, and a set of David's notes. All three boxes are really nice i.e perfect weight and are fairly plain looking. I feel their look is an advantage as I also have A Buddah box, and while it looks nice, some people think that it is gimmicked in some way because of the ornate shape. The Roth boxes just look like that... boxes! The advantage of the Buddah box is that the main 'move' is easier because of the design of the box. The Roth boxes will take some time to adjust too, but I'm willing to put the time in as I believe some neat effects are possible with each or all of the set. The notes that come with the set are quite good with most of David's Okito moves explained with illustrations, there are some routines sprinkled in as well. I feel that the David Roth dvd is a must to achieve some brilliant routines with this set. Damien |

Can someone give their thoughts on Dean Dill's Okito box? Really curious. How does it differ from other boxes in the market?

The Zee boxes are best, in my opinion, for everything except rim steals. The best for rim steals, (IMO even better than the Roth sets that they were based on), are the elusive Shamrock boxes. These used to show up on ebay, as well as wonderful custom wands made by the same maker, but he seems to have dropped out of sight. These boxes were reasonably priced, heavy, thick-rimmed, and BOMBPROOF.... the equivilant of Gary Animal cups. Anybody know what happened to him ?

The link for the Zee boxes seems to be dead, does anyone have a living link to hand?

The Buddah Boxes are the best I have ever seen or used.

I was almost ready to order a Kueppers set but there are posts on the forums that are less enthusiastic about the order experience with his company (quality I have seen nothing but praise for).
Then you have the Roth set which perhaps is more expensive than what I need as a beginner. Or not. But he currently cannot accept Paypal and I cannot pay by cheque or money order. So... I'm all confused now. What do I need? In terms of material, I'm ordering the Roth book Expert Coin Magic as well as COINsomnia by Bill Citino. An for the box or boxes... The Zee boxes seem to be a favorite among many. But should I get a full set or a single box? Or a different brand? The Schoolcraft box from Dean Dill looks good but by comparison it seems to be one box only plus a routine. Decitions decitions... All I know is that I prefer a fairly neutral looking one as opposed to an ornate look. And that I want one that I'm likely to not want to replace after a while. Here is a pictures of an Okito Box I've hand engraved. This is for Halves. I will be making one for Morgans next, but I can’t decide weather to use brass or nickel silver.

Our friends don't have to agree with me about everything and some that I hold very dear don't have to agree about anything, except where we are going to meet them for dinner.

Yes, very beautiful! This reminds me of my art school days and making etchings. A very different technique which may also perhaps be an interesting idea for box decoration. Or a compliment to engraving.
As for me, I placed an order for a Shufton Okito box. It looks very promising.
