I like the Invisible Deck routine. Hold out your hands like you are holding a deck of cards, and tell a spectator that you have an invisible deck. Have them pick a card and memorize it, and tell him that your cards are all face up. Put the card in face down, then have them name their card. Then, get out the deck and show their card is the only face down card.

We came back to the original after a long detour.
Hideo Kato P.S. Although the OP said ID is "name any card" trick, I don't think the original ID performed by Don Alan is "name any card" trick. Maybe it is "what was your card" trick. |

Here's an idea...After doing enough that your audience is convinced that you know your way around a deck of cards, perform some self-working trick. Maybe not the "21" trick, but something not terribly impressive.
Switch decks and go into an "Oh, by the way," patter, and you should be set. dobber |

A variation I use is to have a spectator choose any card out of a regular deck. I hand them a Sharpie and tell them to write the name of any OTHER card on the face of this card, and then set it aside. I go and do some other effects, until everyone has basically forgotten about this card. They I draw attention back to it and ask to see what they wrote. Then reveal that I had earlier turned a card face up in this other deck over here, and proceed to reveal the card that they wrote.
After this has played out, I say "Wait a minute, I actually remember turning over TWO cards in this deck" then I reveal that the other one that is face up is the card they WROTE ON. That gets great reactions! The only thing you have to worry about is either: (1) The card they wrote the name of and the card they wrote on happen to be facing the 'same way' in the ID. If this is the case, you can easily reveal them either seperately or at the same time. (2) The card they wrote the name of and the card they wrote on are facing in 'different directions' in the ID. In this case, the revelation of the first card contains plenty of misdirection for you to discreetly flip over the ID to reveal the second card. Sean |

I no longer use the invisible deck presentation, not that it is not good(it's great) But when the spectator is so blown away he googles invisible deck,(yes it happens) it's ruined. Thankfully, the deck is so ingenious you can still kill using another presentation without someone finding it on the net as a special deck for seven bucks. |

I seen Davide Costi perform his ID effect. It was a complete work of art. I believe he said he use to close his show with it. Either way,it was an amazing.

Jim Swain in the book Don't Blink, uses it as a think of a card triumph, with seeming to mix the cards face up and face down, and then dribbling the deck on to the table, showing the cards are indeed messed up, only then is the card named, and all you do is spread the deck on the table showing only the thought of card reversed.
Very well thought out routine. Steve |
