As a former NOLA performer Im very happy that you're doing good after a horrific experience. One of my friends from the NOLA street days is still living in a FEMA trailer unfortunately. I played the first NO Jazz and Heritage Festival with Professor Longhair.

A hint when ordering from Hank Lee. If you are going for the discounts. After you make the order on line, then hit "checkout", but don't pay yet. It will show you just what is discounted on that page. It will be your checkout page and show each item and the final price. If something is not discounted, then you have the option of taking it off. Then I wait for the quadruple point sale to get that item. He is acually having a 30% off sale as we speak. code: QUICKNBIG
Today until 8pm tonight Eastern only.

Hank has ripped me more then once. AVOID all at all cost. why did I place another order. the stupid discount. I'm the real moron lol.

Basically if you order something he has in stock its not to bad.
if not you never get your item.

this what happens, a quick transcript of the emails for example

From Hanks Mon, Jul 6, 2009 - back order notice -NOTE- I ordered three days prior to this.

Me: Thu, Jul 9, 2009 - "any update on this please?"

Hank: Thu, Jul 9, 2009 "Thanks. Shipping early next week."

Me: Thu, Jul 16, 2009 "any news. I'm hoping this shipped? if not can you please refund so I can find it else where"

Hank: Jul 16, 2009 "On the way!"

Me: Thu, Jul 23, 2009 "still nothing... please just refund me"

I would never say Hank Lee's ripped me off, but I would say Daytona magic ripped me off many times!

Hank has always given me a store credit on things he cannot get. If I can wait, I get super deals. If I cannot wait, then I order it from someone else.
I use Hank Lee for standard supplies and books, DVD's, and things everyone has. If I need something special, I'll call first.
Yes, every time they are out of something, they hand write on my receipt "ship in 7 days". Most of the time they do, unless it is a special order. I kind of know what is out there in the magic world, I keep up, so I pretty well know if something is discontinued or new. They might not have the new thing yet, and the disc. thing might be out of stock permantly. I know who manufacturs most of the things, and a call to the manufacturer will tell me if they have them available.
I already said, and I like repeating it, I just got a Wellington Switch Board from Hank Lee for $245! Using the free points!
I called them on a Monday and had it by that Wednesday!

Steven's Magic Emporium hasn't been mentioned I don't think. I don't like their website so don't buy from them but they were a great dealer for my Tabman USA stuff years ago.

Anybody??

I've gotten some nice props from Stevens, but I don't think I've ever ordered books from him.

One of the best kept secrets in magic is Williams Magic in Tucson. For sale library is extensive and deep.

And you get personal service that the bigger dealers don't give you.

Did anyone mention Paul Diamond for books?

I bought a lot of new books still in the plastic shrink wrap for up to 50% off.
And sometimes he has old books even cheaper. It pays to be on his mailing list.
If you want to be on it, pm me your email, and I will send it to him, as I get a chance to win free stuff if I send in emails.

I have good experience with Steven's Magic Emporium, the only problem is the International shipping cost ;-)

The only problem I had with Stevens was customer service over the phone. An apparent inexperienced person could not answer my question, and I was ready to shell out some good money, and I asked if Joe Stevens was there, the person on the phone said, "Joe is sitting right here listening to everything we said, and he would have said something if he knew." So that ended the conversation. I've spent thousands of dollars at Stevens, and was going to spend more. I was dissapointed so I ended up not spending any money with them.

I've bought almost all of my books from H&R. (www.magicbookshop.com) Richard knows every book in the shop, has an extensive inventory both new & used, ships so fast it's like magic, and on top of that is a super-nice guy. I only buy somewhere else if they don't have it in stock and I can't wait.
If you stop by the warehouse, the experience is great as well. Super-nice & super-helpful. I can't say enough good things.

Elmwood Magic has a great selection of books and you always know if it is in stock. Never any danger of back order. Ships same day of order. Owner, Paul, is also very knowledgeable.

I think Ebay is the best place. I have found some really good bargains on there.
