I have to agree with Derek. The BW is well-made, works smoothly, allows you to perform visual miracles. It does take patience and practice, but then, doesn't most of what we do take patience and practice?
I did not get it for free (I paid full price) and I felt no pressure from anyone to give a good review. Regards, Steve

I don't want to comment on the BW...
But the Raven is not that good either. The best thing is the Bat... Or better yet, just a magnet hidden some place on your wrist. I bought a nice Neo, put it into a cloth bracelet, and can use it any time and with what ever clothes I want to wear. I can vanish stuff, change stuff, and make stuff flip over in their hand. You don't need a hold out or a pull. Why run if no one is chasing you. Randi |

7.Whys is no one honest on the Café when reviewing product anymore? So you are the only magician on this entire board that gives an honest opinion? That is very insulting to all here that perform the art of magic and take the time to post their opinions. Once again, magician's helping magician's. magicmike30

"Once again, magician's helping magician's." In your case it would be "magicians helping creators". I assume you are still working with Darryl, the creator of Black Widow on his other effect, the amazing shoe that levitates 2" for a mere $1600.00. Perhaps someone more neutral should pick apart Jeff's opinion. |

I do not own the BW, and I've never seen the gadget itself. But, a guy from my club did an effect with it right in my hands, which blew me away. Not sure about the ease of setup or anything like that, but the effect itself sure went over well with me.

My appologies...
I did not mean to offend. But the number of positive reviews on this piece suprised me to no end. I think that dishonesty in reviews unfortunately is a trend felt by the magic Café...

Jeff, you know most of us over in the Penny forum also get accused of over-hyping each other's mentalism releases on a regular basis?
People are getting jaded by the internet, and no positive review is taken at face value anymore. Even if it's sincere. It's good to be on your toes when deciding where to put your head-earned cash, but don't get too jaded. Sometimes a good review is just that. People I know and whose performances I enjoy, use a BW; it's not my thing, but apparently they find value in it.

Hey Jeff,
Cool, I had a feeling you didn't really mean to offend anybody, and were just using the all-inclusive statements as a way of making a point. Sorry if I over reacted to your post. I really do understand your feelings of frustration when something that seems completely useless to you is being given so many positive, glowing reviews. This can be especially difficult given that it can be hard to find local dealers anymore where you can go and actually try something out before laying down the often times substantial amounts of hard earned cash. Well, certain things I've found helpful, one is to find certain folks on the forum whose opinion you KNOW you can trust, and who seem to feel like you do about certain products. I also look for the general "feel" of the reviews given. There seem to be certain key words that get used over and over by a lot of folks when describing something, and those either help steer me away, or to a particular item. Any way.... this internet, forum, kind of buying thing is still new, and it takes a while to settle in to what works and doesn't. As always, this is still a good place for a discussion. Let the adventure continue......... Derek |

Hey if you don't like the BW that is fine, it is not for everybody. Too come here and say that reviews are blindsided and not true if someone else likes this effect, that is wrong. Believe me I can have an opinion on that. Take a look at my review on the Electric Touch. Oh wait that would be no good as Yigal is my brother;) magicmike30

The BW is a reasonably priced hold-out that actually has added feature that other hold-outs do not offer.
It IS superiour to the Raven, but you must understad what it IS. You wouldn't compare this to a universal pull would you? As far as how the quality stands up to OTHER HOLD-OUTS, well . . .

Now when I read this thread, it just sounds like some folks aren't willing to put in the effort to make the BW work for them. Seems some of us still expect to be able to perform an effect right out the box without practising. I know a couple of performers who use BW, and they did spend an awful lot of time becoming familiar with it.....

Seems to a trend: Hype and drooling followed by backlash and foaming at the mouth.

It is interesting though, how the hype has subsided.
For 2 weeks, I have been trying to sell a brand new BW for $150.00 with no takers. It seems that in the market place that the rage over this gimmick is over. I am really surprised that there has not been a single taker, with a $75 dollar discount, for a brand new one. I am not bashing the device (it is clearly well designed and of quality), just that the hype is over and it seems to me and the marketplace has adjusted its view as to its value accordingly. Bob |

Hmmmm ........ no surprise that this can be bought for less on the used market now (even in new condition). That's just economics 101.
When I bought my BW, I never imagined that it would replace sleight of hand. Heck, that's half the fun of doing impromptu magic, being able to pick up any handy small object, at a moments notice, and do something cool with it. The BW is just a tool. For me, a VERY cool tool, and for those willing to put in the practice time, it can help them do devestatingly cool magic, right in the hands of the victim...... er ........spectator. Can you do devestatingly cool magice without the BW, of course. It's just another tool in our bag of tricks. Yes, there was a lot of buzz when it first came out, and rightly so..... it's neat, different, fun to play with, and aids in performing near miracles. One of the strogest reactions I get using the BW is from simply popping a kernal of pop corn in some body's hand. It just looks like real magic, and leaves most folks with their mouth open, unable to speak for a moment. I love that look. Paul Harris calls that the moment of "astonishment", and anything that can help me give that moment, as a gift, to my spectator is something I want to use. This device obviously isn't for everybody, and not suitable for every situation, and just like most magic tools, learning when to use it is just as important as how to use it. So yes, the buzz is lessening because it's been available for 8 months or so, and folks naturally are interested in the next new fun thing to play with. Probably, most of those that were interested in this device to start with have already purchased one, so sales have tapered off. That's the way it works. Some folks will find that it doesn't work for their particular style, or that they don't like it, and will sell theirs. Fine, somebody else will get a good deal on one, and hopefully put in the time to discover the many wonders they can accomplish with the BW. And yes, others will continue to put it down as too expensive, over hyped, and completely useless. And so the cycle continues. |

So I just won an ebay-auction 10 minutes ago ;o) A new BW for 162,50 plus shipping.
As I read in a german magic magazine about BW just a week ago, it's compleatly new for me and I can't await to get mine... I read almost everything here about the BW in the last days and I got the impression that the very most OWNERS of the BW are very happy with it. Now I'm looking foreward to get mine...
