I have read many people say that these are among the best canes in the business. I am only learning and have never used a cane before. So my question is should I learn with a plastic one, or just learn using the Harakhan? I would prefer to not spend another 20 something dollars on a plastic one if I can just learn using a Harakhan, but I don't want to lose any fingers either.
Sorry I wasn't sure where to post this...in the beginners or manipulation section. |

It can be a good idea to have a plastic cane for practice since you may drop it a few times here and there.
It can save you some pain and damage to the Harakhan if you practice first with the plastic first.

If you have never played with canes before, then it would be wise to get a plastic cane first. Fantasio would be a good starter.
When you are playing with a cane (appearing or disappearing cane) you may find yourself dropping them. Practising them to get different magic effects would mean you may have to experiment with different handling and techniques. All these trial and error means making mistakes too. And mistakes mean dropping the canes. So if you are using a good quality cane such as the Harakhan or Mahka Tendo canes, you may damage them as you are experimenting with different techniques. On the other hand some magicians would recommend that you work with the good quality canes so as to get used to them from the beginning. These canes are of high quality and you don't have to worry about damaging the canes. You would also save money by using quality canes instead of replacing worn out or damaged canes. So, which advice is correct? Both are also good advice. It is really up to you. But most importantly it would also depend on your budget. Hope this helps. |
