OK, here's the deal. I'm getting married next year, and I want to create a magical entrance. The hall that I am using has an elevator floor so that the bride and groom kind of appear in the middle of it during their song.

I would like to have an "empty" box come up through the floor and when the best man closes it and spins it around, the doors are opened and there we are.

I know how to create this illusion, but I am not really a builder. Can somone please give me some ideas on materials to use to keep it as light as possible. Also, if possible, I would like to make it foldable so that I can easily transport it. Any advice would be helpful.

I'm no expert, but I think a lot will depend on the budget and the type of illusion you are doing. If you do not need the sides of the box to be really strong you could probably get frames made from aluminium or steel tubing and cover them in material? Keeps things light, but may not fit in with your illusion.
The most beautiful experience we can have is the mysterious. It is the fundamental emotion which stands at the cradle of true art and true science. Whoever does not know it and can no longer wonder, no longer marvel, is as good as dead, and his eyes are

You could also use large cardboard boxes, or just cardboard, especially if it is a 1 time use. Decorate it nicely and you are done. Hold it together with tape.

Some ideas can be found in Mark wilson's book.

You could also use foam core.
