I'm taking to heart some of the marketing techniques and plus-selling ideas recommended by the many mentors on this site. Not only do I want to start providing goodie bags, but I'd like to create my own little "magic kit" for the birthday child with my "deluxe" package (ala Ken Scott and others). Does anyone have a good outlet for inexpensive magical tricks and goodies in quantity? I've tried the Oriental Trading Company which is always a good bet, but they're lacking in the 'magic trick' department. Any revelations to share??
Regards, Larry

Check out your Dollar Store. Ours has magic sets for only $1!

Another good source for fun giveaways is the Rhode Island Novelty company.
http://www.rinovelty.com/ Sometimes they have magic tricks, but there are lots of other things as well. Some of their prices are better than Oriental Trading Company. |

I like the Rhode Island Novelty company! A place that has a special category for Dental Novelties can't be all bad!
Also, check a Dollar Store chain called "Dollar Tree." They are fairly widespread in the USA and you can often get an even better deal than $1 if you order large quantities.

Larry,
Kipp Brothers has a "Magic Trick Assortment" twelve (12) tricks, individually wrapped with instructions for a single unit cost of $3.00 . Their website is: http://www.kiptoys.com and the item # is: NB 6890. Once you buy a Gross (144) the unit price drops to $2.65. They also have a dozen (12) wands for a unit price of $3.60 (30 cents per wand). The item # for the wands is: NB 6973. At the 60 dozen order the unit price is $2.70 (22.5 cents per wand). Also all orders over $200 have free shipping. I use these for my "Magic Classes, Goody Bags & BOR @ Scouts & Fairs & Festivals. Of the twelve items in the bag I would call 10 of them tricks & 2 puzzles. Yours, Aragorn the Magician

I go to the Dollar Store and buy bags of bouncy balls, pairs of sunglasses, toy cars, bags of snakes, frogs, bats, jewelry, etc. I store them in a clear type tackle box that is meant for fishing lures. I carry this to the show and after the show I have each child come up and pick something out of my prize box. The kids are very receptive to this.

Thanks Marvello,
I went to site and all I found was a bunch of links. What a great resource. I've been using, Rhode Island Novelty, Oriental Trading and Dillon Importing. Not sure if Dillon Importing is still around. I haven't used them in a while. Rhode Island Novelty has great prices. Thanks again, Nez

I have ordered from Rhode Island several times, and was quite happy. However, I decided to try another company this month (cheaper tricks). My order arrived two days ago from American Carnival Mart. To be quite honest, I was extremely disappointed. Frankly, I'd be embarrassed to give most of these "tricks" in goodie bags. They are like something you would find in a box of Crackerjacks, or a cereal box.
Now I've just got to figure out a way to get rid of all of these items. Maybe give them away to the kids at the restaurants. Even then, I'd have to select which ones to give out. The rest? Well, maybe I can package and distribute Lehr's Magic Popcorn, with a Special Prize inside each Ziplock Baggie! Brian |

May I suggest instead of Oriental trading try http://www.funexpress.com they are the wholesale company to oriental. Instead of buying a dozen you would buy a case. yea it is going to cost more up front but you will be saving a lot of money in the long run.

Thanks, Ken. You mentioned a shrink-wrap machine in your notes to add a more professional touch to your magic set for the birthday child ... a recommendation?

Where can you get those "custom" magic sets that I have seen many magicians sell after a show?
Example: http://www.bradross.com/merchandise.html the first two.
