Just wondering whether anyone who owns a Vincent Vulture ever uses it for kids shows.

Is it too scary?

I"ve often wondered about getting this puppet. I think it has wonderful potential and could really be very funny. It's all in how you present him. I don't think any of Steve's puppets are scary necessarily. The only time I ever "scared" a kid with one of his puppets was with "Wild Thing" because he was moving around so fast and I think the movement and hyper-activeness of the character I gave "him" (or whatever Wild Thing is) was what did it.
You'll never know until you try it out....although he looks so "cartoon-like" I have a hard time believing he'd scare anyone unless they already had a puppet phobia.
Check out Steve's "Ax Television" on DVD to see Vincent in action...my 4 year old only laughs and giggles when he sees him!
Best,
Chris
PS. I'd love to be Steve's "Puppet Tester", he could just ship me all the puppets he has and I could spotlight a different puppet every week and write a review after I used it in school shows! I can dream, right?

I don't have Vincent Vulture, but since there hasn't been too many responding, I'll throw in my 2 cents.

I think it would all depend upon your presentation. If it is a scary looking puppet I feel that it might be important to establish that he is not threatening right off the bat. Maybe even before you bring him out. You could talk about how afraid he is to come out, how timid he is, and how he is scared of people, etc. Then you can bring him out and kids will probably be sympathetic towards him rather than afraid.

This could also be incorporated into the routine. You could probably make a wonderful presentation about being different, or bullying, or something along those lines with a scary looking puppet.
