Hello,
I am working on a "Rich Man" theme for a show, where I will be producing multiple coins at various points during the show. The idea is to be able to make money appear whenever I want. I was thinking of doing the Miser's dream. I am only experienced in the basic palmings, vanishes, and appearances, so I am looking for advise about the best DVD's for learning the Misers Dream. Who is the best/easiest/most explained? I also saw a video clip somewhere (I can't find it now) of Cyril Takayama, and he had coins pouring out of his hands. Does anybody have any ideas about how I could accomplish this sort of thing? Does anyone have any other suggestions for making money appear? The flashier the better. By the way, the show will be for about 250 people and is in just over two months. Thank you in advance,
Thanks,

For the money, there's OSAKA BILLS, which would play very well to 250 people, as well as Dan Watkin's single-bill appearance on the DVD Coin Man Walking.
A great miser's dream routine can also be learned from Jeff McBrides World-class Manipulation DVD vol. 1 Scott. |

In the Vernon book of Magic there's a fun routine called "Free and Unlimited Coinage of Silver". You might enjoy that.
...to all the coins I've dropped here

If you don't mind using a prop, load a a mixture of real bills and some spring bills in a silk casket. The audience sees a transparent empty cubic container which instantly fills with bills. I've used this as part of a Miser's Dream routine and it gets a great reaction. Most dealers sell them. I have an old one from Ickle Pickle which is spring loaded and works wells. If you don't have a silk casket you could use the old dove pan and change fire into bills using spring bills again.
As far as producing a cascade of coins from the hand like Cyril does, you are at a disadvantage since I doubt you will be performing with your own crew that can choose the angles the camera will look at, control the lighting, and assist in ways I can't go into in this open forum. However, stacks of coins can be produced from the bare hands using techniques described in Hugard's Coin Magic p. 71 and in the section on Miser's Dream in Bobo. You can also acquire the stacks in ways similar to the methods dove workers use. Some require b--- loads and some use st---s from assistants, tables, or the receptacle you are tossing the coins into (coin ladders, hats, buckets etc.). Larry |
