My friend Mick Ayres has done it again. Some of you might be tuned in on his other manuscripts such as Hoodwinkings. Mick's new book is "Predictabilities." I thought I would posit a "review" of sorts.
The Table of Contents: Location, Location, Location Fate Rescue 2000 Hummingbird Reality Phone Experience Know Way! Mick sub-titles the manuscrip "Mental Dramas and Parlour Wonder in One act." What I like about Mick's magic is that it is simple (note: NOT Simplistic). Any effect should be easily summarized in one or two sentences. And Mick makes it that simple. There is maximum participation in the act. Why is this important? Because people do not remember all the details of a trick, nor do they want to. It is the AUDIENCE that becomes the focus of how they INTERACT with the mentalist. They will walk away remembering the good time they had. Mick provides the patter, presentation, and the transitions from effect to effect. That being said... Location is a prediction effect with multiple possibilities but you always are correction in your prediction...using items from the audience. Fate is a card effect where a second SPECTATOR selects the same color and suit, and they match the first spectator's selection. To be honest...unless an effect is visual with cards, I tend to nod off. But Mick's effect places the spectators at center stage and you end up wondering how in the world did she know what the card was??? Rescue 2000 is the revelation of a personal number in the mind of the spectator. Hummingbird is an uncanny card effect where the SPECTATOR guides the MAGICIAN/MENTALIST to her selected card. Talk about role reversal. If you read most of the literature where this sort of thing occurs one arrives at the notion of an instant stooge. And you hope she won't talk later. But this is NOT a stooge thing. She really does the impossible. Reality Phone Experience is a phone revelation of a card. Again, if you read the literature here, much of it is an impossibly long, mathematical nonsense that would send people to sleep and dead time on the air, especially for radio, is deadly. But here Mick presents a card divination that can be done when the Magi is present or you can do it on the phone- again, no stooges. I'm surprised that he didn't title this "How the Hell..." but hey, what do I know about marketing. Know Way!- A sort of psychic poker routine. But like most of Mick's material, this is easy, easy, easy to do and follow (a must for a "think a card" routine. Yes, I know Mick is a personal friend. But I also believe in telling him and others the truth when it comes to material. So imagine that you walk into a venue with a small case or simply you and your pockets, with a dry erase board. Then you proceed to honor your audience by having them BE the magic. You'll do it with this material. My only gripe about the material is that Mick gives away too much for too little. And remember...this stuff is not, I repeat, not a pipe dream. Mick is a working performer for Disney and over the past year has been telling me about the material and finally now it is in manuscript form. I'm sure if you email or call him (he's on the web and here sometimes) that he can get it to you. Good stuff!!!

Chris and Reuben,
Thank you for your interest in Predict-Abilities. Of course, I'm estatic you find the act noteworthy, Chris. Predict-Abilities is Book Two in my Act-series. It details a 40 minute mentalism act that only requires a deck of cards and a small dry-erase board. Nothing is gimmicked. To say that it has been audience-tested is an understatement. The act was enjoyed by thousands of guests at the Disney resort for well over a year until I put a fresh act into place a few months ago. The manuscript is $20 (Paypal to: mick@cardworker.com) for the download...or PM me and I'll provide a snailmail address if you want the printed book instead. Predict-Abilities is a self-working, fully-scripted mentalism act. The manuscript includes transition-scripts to smooth the way from one effect to another within the act. Thanks again for the kind, encouraging word, Chris. Best, Mick

If this is even half as good as Hoodwinkings, this will be a great purchase.
I've not performed the entire Hoodwings act as of yet, but have performed some of the routines individualy. Very strong stuff! |

John,
I don't have a website dedicated to my products yet (I'm an idiot when it comes to computer skills). However, PM me or just drop a note to my email: mick@cardworker.com and I'll be happy to give you (or anyone else) the details about ordering. Thank you again for your interest in my work. Best, Mick
