I got to see a preview of the Loops material back in February at Magi-Fest and you are not going to want to miss this class! The effects that can be accomplished with Loops are AMAZING! They definitely beat the heck out of the old "Flipping the Sunglasses Over" trick...

***IMPORTANT UPDATE***
This is a very important update on the 2007 Twin City Magic Convention. Due to a scheduling conflict at the Holiday Inn Hotel & Convention Center, we have had to change locations for our upcoming convention. The convention will now be held at the Comfort Systems USA Performance Center in Bristol, VA (located inside the Bristol Mall). Don't let me paint you the wrong picture, this is a private theater with an outside entrance and no store-front windows or anything like that. The great part is that we have worked out a lot of food and entertainment discounts with many of the mall merchants. The new "Convention Hotel" will be the Hampton Inn of Bristol. There are a few hotels to choose from, but the Hampton Inn is offering a convention special, and this is where the performers and most registrants will be staying. As an added bonus, we will be offering a Free Complimentary Shuttle from the Hampton Inn to the Comfort Systems USA Performance Center! Directions and more information are available under the location link on our convetnion website at http://www.twincitymagicconvention.com. Remeber you can still save $10.00 if you register before May 1, 2007. If you have any questions please e-mail me at info@twincitymagicconvention.com. See you in June! |

I've seen the center. It's a great place for the convention. And now instead of having to drive to get something to eat, it will be right there. God just keeps opening doors for this convention. I can't wait to see everyone there. A private theater for the convention and the Paramount for Saturday night, that's awesome!

Good Move!
Recently Holiday Inn appears to be uninterested in building a professional relationship with magic conventions and professional entertainers anymore. We should take the hint and take our convention and lodging business where it is wanted. At this time, I think Holiday Inn is more interested in finding new owners. (I wish them luck!) Obviously their priorities have changed. Event planners need to know that. For facilities, a ballroom (working in the flat) can never compete with a real theater anyway. This is certainly an improvement! Congratulations Twin City Magic Convention! I see it as moving UP! James and I look forward to being there June 1 & 2, 2007. It will be my third one in a row. See you there! Bob Sanders Magic By Sander PS --- Don't forget to cancel your reservations at Holiday Inn and get the deal at Hampton Inn. |

I just wanted to say thanks to Dave for his calling the attendees to alert them of this problem. He wanted to be sure that we were not going to be "stuck" at the Holiday Inn and that we had rooms. His personal touch has really impressed me. This is only my second convention and I am looking forward to it even more now. I have NO doubt this will be an outstanding weekend.

Sorry to hear about the change in venue. The Hampton Inn does not have facilities to accommodate late night sessioning and can only provide a complimentary breakfast for guests. Shuttling to and from the Mall and the Inn is not my idea of having a good time. Over the years, I have attended many conventions and can attest that the most successful took place under one roof. Hopefully my young friend Eric Jones will do good business in the dealer's room. He is a quite talented performer. The convention has a fine line-up of talent. Maybe next year more desirable conditions will exist. Best of luck and much success.

Woody,
I'm afraid there are plenty of us who don't share your need for "under one roof" conventions. I do one or two magic conventions a month year round and can't agree at all. Many small conventions don't have a real stage or theater. Those have to stay at the single location. Larger conventions are rarely "under one roof". Most motel facilities simply don't have a real theater. Classrooms are hardly the same. Besides, it is obvious that Holiday Inn's current priority is finding new owners. Let's wish them luck with that. Then let's see if they ever get back into the convention business first before putting them back on the bid list. They have management problems they didn't have a decade ago. On the other hand, we have options. (How many event planners are standing in line to go there now?) When it comes to food, I like being in a position to make my own decisions. I really see moving as an improvement. You can't make progress without change. Each year, I'm sure some fine tuning will be done. On your recommendation, I look forward to seeing your friend Eric Jones. He should do fine in the dealers' room. This is my third time back in the dealers' room. Pre-sales are already good. It should be a great weekend again! Hope I get to meet you there. Bob Sanders Magic By Sander |

I have to agree with Bob here...Dave and I were just at the Hampton Inn this past Monday and I have to say that the rooms are much nicer than the Holiday Inn, the hotel is much cleaner, and the employees are much friendlier!!!
This is a smaller, more initmate convention and the lobby has plenty of room for us to do late-night sessions and jam with each other. However, T-Gordons (a sit-down restaurant, adjacent to the Comfort Systems USA Performance Center) has agreed to stay open late after the convention each night and offer drink and food specials to our registrants! This is a GREAT location to hang out and jam at the end of each day. A restaurant/bar full of magicians...what more could you ask for? I think the location change is a positive! We could have taken the easy way out and just cancelled the entire convention, but we have persevered and found a new location and made the best out of the situation. Not only that, but Dave and I have personally made phone calls to each and every registrant, performer and dealer already registered for our convention. Everyone is still very excited about the convention and as I have said before, I think this will be the best year yet!!! |

Glad to see that the convention is still going on. I live about an hour from Bristol, TN and have worked several shows for companies’ banquets & meetings at the Holiday Inn in Bristol and a once at The Paramount Theater. I agree that Holiday Inn does not have the best banquet rooms and the staff was not too helpful. I remember that I sent my rider to them a few years ago for a company Christmas Party for a stage/platform (14 by 14). I showed up and the Holiday Inn staff had me a little platform that was maybe 6 by 6 feet. Needless to say, that would not work so I just performed on the floor because the show must go on. Anyway, I have been back to Holiday Inn several times since then and they still do not know what they are doing.
I will have to agree with Bob and the others when I say that a magic convention does not have to be “under one roof”. Performing close-up and lecturing in the hotel banquet rooms works. However, the stage show is ALWAYS best when you work on a real first class theater stage such as the Paramount. I have been very honor to have been a paid performed for stage, close-up, and/or lecture at the following over the last couple of years…. Magi-Fest 2005, Abbott’s Get Together 2005, SEAM 2006, Winter Carnival of Magic 2006, Daytona Beach Magic Festival 2006, Midwest Jubilee 2007, MagiCelebration 2007. Plus I am already booked for The Battle in Canton, Ohio for 2008. As a performer it is much better to work on a nice theater stage like the Paramount instead of a stage that is build in the middle of a hotel. The Paramount is a first class theater and will be much better that the John Battle High School stage that was used last year. I have a gig on Friday night at 6 PM in Fuquay-Varina, NC. My good friend Michael Lair is on the Saturday night show so I hope to make back it time to see him and the show at the Paramount. This is for all of my supporters and magician friends who have asked me why I live only an hour from Bristol but have not appeared on the show at Twin City yet. The answer is simple…I’m a busy performer and I have not been asked to. However, I have been able to support them and see the Twin City Saturday night show twice. Hopefully, I will be there for the Saturday show once I get back from NC. Hope to see you there! Keep the Magic Going! Joseph Young http://www.JOSEPHYOUNGMAGIC.COM

I got a call from Dave yesterday to let me know that the convention was being moved and I really appreciate the professionalism shown by both Dave and Ryan. It's got to be quite time consuming calling each registrant, dealer and all the talent to let them know the situation, rather than send out a series of e-mails and hope to heck everyone reads them. That wins points with me.
Not only that, but Dave and Ryan were able to put my heart at ease by answering all my questions including information about shuttles to and from the hotel to the Convention Center. The line up is superb, the customer service I've gotten so far from the organizers of the event has been stellar. Dispite the setbacks, I can't wait for June to roll around so I can experience my first (and hopefully not last)Twin City Magic Convention!!!!

Eric,
Thanks for the positive comments. It's nice to know our efforts are appreciated! We try to be professional. We want to treat everyone with respect and the way they deserve to be treated. From time to time in this business you will run across people who just don't get it. We are here to promote MAGIC, not ourselves! Those are the kind of people, (performers, dealers and guest) we want at our convention. Not the people who are out for themselves and themselves only. that's the simple real reason some have not been ask to appear at Twin City Magic Convention. The Bristol area seems to have more than its share of those kind of people with in an hour drive. It's a proven fact, if you are a true professional, you won't have to toot your own horn, so to speak, others will do that for you! I want to add that Ryan and I are just a small part of Twin City Magic Convention. There are a lot more people involved in making this convention one that everyone will enjoy and learn from and want to attend as offen as possible. Thank you again for the kind words and we are all looking forward to seeing you in June. |
