Does anyone use Warp One on a regular basis? I've only performed it a few times and I got great reactions. I love it because it is fairly easy to do and there is not much set-up. What do you guys think about Warp One?

I think this trick looks really good when performed well. If you don't put in the practice for this one you can ruin it. Plus I love tricks you can just do with music which makes it even better.

I think it is a brilliant effect that boggles people's minds. Can someone please share what kind of premise do they use when they perform Warp One or any form of card warp for the matter? Do you use the 'voodoo zone' theory or some strange phenomenon or anything bizarre?
Cheers.

I use it a lot. I use a deck just for it, this way I am not concerned about destroying the card. People love it. I usually do it after I do the standard way (with 2 cards). Gets an even stronger reaction the second time!

Like this is done with one regular playing card..." And then I do Warp One. David |

Sorry to criticize, but will you please stop saying 'one REGULAR playing card'? It gets people thinking that there are such things as playing cards that AREN'T regular.
Try saying "This is done with JUST one playing card." It conveys the message you are trying to get across without throwing doubt into the spectators' minds.

I'm working on a "Mr. Science" personae for an act. I'm known by my friends as someone who knows a lot about technology and science. I use a pseudo-scientific mumbo jumbo mix of words like "folding space" and "discontinuity of space/time" to explain what is going on.
I'm working on Warp One to use after doing "green warp". I'll start by saying, there is something really odd about some of the newer dollar bills. I then ask for a newish bill and do green warp. Then I'll say, sometimes the properties on these bills can rub off onto your fingers, maybe this happened this time. Then I'll do warp one with another card. Warp One looks bad if you don't practice it enough. The magic really happens only when the moves are smooth and flowing. I'm not at that point yet, so this is an untried routine...

Just don't use your whole hand when you cover the card. Just use a couple fingers, and it will look very clean.

I do this in conjunction with the classic Card Warp ( I think it's by Roy Walton).
Right after the first classic Card Warp, I ditch one of the cards and proceed to do it with only one card. At other times, I do proceed to See-Saw by Dan Harland. This whole 3 tricks routine revolves around the idea that cards can be warped back to back, cut apart and put back together. It might interest you to do card restorations as well. It really does make the spectator think that you're using one same technique to achieve all the different effects. The down side, of course, is that you virtually destroy half the deck by the time you're done with the routine. Cheers. |

Yes it is by Roy Walton. Warp one is an interesting approach. Also Check out Tyler Wilson's Handling from his book Dominatrix.

I have always thought that one of the nicest parts of card warp is the visual picture created in the end when you rip the cards and clean up. If you ditch the card you won't get this. When I first saw Warp One I thought it looked kinda cool, but I never really got into it. I hope you all have success with it if you put the work needed to do it good.

I have a lot of Warping routines, including Warp One, Totally Warped, Warped and Restored, Dr. Strange Trick, (and the list goes on and includes some Don England routines which are killer) and this was what I had been looking for. The original with a kicker ending. This one fit my style more than the others. I would recommend anyone to take a look at any of the others as they all have great qualities and may be perfect for your style. And to stay on topic, Warp One is beautiful in the right hands. Really? I didn't know it had that other stuff in it. That is in his book Enchantments, right? I'll have to get that. It is possible to end Warp One with a hypercard.

No I was saying that I have the other routines and many others. Wesley's book Enchantments does contain the Hypercard though which in my opinion was worth buying the book. I guess you could possibly end Warp One with Hypercard with some handling differences at the end but it looks better when presented as part of a 2 card display (you could possibly add the second card at the end I guess). You may could do the tearing for the Hypercard at the end of Warp One but I think it would really destroy the illusion for both effects. To me Hypercard answers the question that I know went through my mind when I first seen Card Warp of "Man I wish I could see whats going on inside the other card".
Now with Tom's little addition to the Hypercard itself, who knows what may be possible for Warp One. I personally haven't tried it or even though of it. It may be something interesting for someone to play with. If Hypercard is the only thing anyone would be after though, another source you may want to check out is the Hypercard Project by Tom Frame. Wesley's routine is written up in it as well and contains nice photos and other routines/uses for the Hypercard. You can find it at Hocus-Pocus magic shop or Magic Warehouse I know. Also, it may be possibly still available from Tom Frame himself. Absolute beautiful give-away at the end. I have shown it to people who perform the original Card Warp routine (magicians obviously) and they will just stare at the Hypercard and be blown away. The don't see it coming. Tom has a routine (Son of Hyperwarp) in the Hypercard Project that sure enough leaves them with the impossible.
