I apologise in advance for the length of this post and hope you will read it and try to help me.
Just a post to see if anyone can help me with my rope routine. Before I go on I will just say that my knowledge on rope magic is far from encyclopedic and am fairly new to using ropes. I have been learning a rope routine on the David Stone real secrets of magic DVD called 'hallucination'. I really liked this routine when I saw it and have practiced it relentlessly and have it pretty much spot on and have got the wows I wanted when I have performed to friends and family. The problem I have is that I am in the process of putting a set together to use my magic in a proffesional capacity and have realised a problem with the routine. For those of you who don't know the trick David starts with one large piece of rope and secretly introduces a smaller piece, rather than actually cutting a small piece off. The routine ends with david putting what the spectator thinks are the only ends of rope in the spectators pocket these are in fact the ends of the small piece of rope which he scrunches up whilst in the pocket and removes, he then reveals the actual ends of the large rope in his other hand. Essentially the spectator appears to see the ends of the rope travel invisibly from their pocket to his hand for him to then hand out the rope for inspection. I really liked this as he ends clean and is part of a routine which has a real nice 'beat' to it. My problem is that when he does this he uses a mans pocket on his suit jacket which seems large enough for him to carry out all the necessary moves however I feel that the situations I plan on working in will not be like the ones he is in in the dvd and I cant see me going into some guys tight fitting jeans or potentially wanting to do the trick to a group of girls with not a pocket amongst them and carrying the effect of with the necessary smoothness. I have experienced this in the relatively small amount of time I have been demonstrating the trick. Sorry again if I have not put this across clearly but what I need is some advice on ending the trick. Abviously any comment from those of you who use this routine would be great but any advice on rope routines with two bits of rope or any tips on where to look for ideas would be handy. I love this trick and David has done a great job on it but I feel a little adaptation may be needed for me and I hope I haven't given to much of the method away in describing the problem I have. Thankyou, Fingers |

Why don't you put the ends of the rope in your pocket? Yeah it's stronger in the spectators, but the routine as a whole is strong, so that won't matter. When you can get away with it, go with the spectator's pocket, when you can't just ditch in your own.

Yes I agree with Stevie. David even shows this on the DVD, he either uses his own pocket or the spectators pocket.

Hi Magic Fingers,
I love that routine and agree with Mike & Stevie, just use your OWN pocket. If this is an opener then even better as they have the chance to examine the rope at the start. Then all they have to do is sit back and watch the eye candy. Chris |

If you are working a Restaurant, I would definitely NOT go into anyone's pockets. It would not be long before you are no longer working that venue.

Thanks for the replies. Should have said that I was aware that you could demonstrate it in your own pocket which I have done before. I was really trying to find something as powerful as using the spectators pocket as a substitute and as I am fairly new to rope magic was really fishing for ideas on how to end this routine with 'a bang'.
