Sorry for a stupid question:
What about tricks and routines in card college? I know there are loads of sleights, but are there great tricks as well? |

Yes, there are few tricks after each chapter.
And I believe this will answer your question http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......;forum=2

Card College is a great series of books and there are plenty of great tricks, as many here at the Café will attest. If you are serious in learning magic with cards, then it's a "no-brainer"...get Card College. Whether you buy volume by volume or the entire set at once, it will be a wise investment...believe me. You will acquire a solid foundation in order to create your own effects as an added bonus.

Highly recommended. This series is designed to start you off from scratch, break old habits, and develop your skills in card magic. Roberto performs these effects himself, so I think this speaks for itself as to the quality of material provided.

Yes, there's tricks in almost each chapter, using sleight taught on that chapter. and the tricks are very good (i think no one will say Homing Card Plus, ACR, Cannibal, etc are NOT good effects)
you will learn not only how to execute the right move, but also the reason for doing that, and some proper misdirection |

For years I told people the same thing about Royal Road to Card Magic, and I still think you can't go wrong with RRTCM, but I am now sold on Card College. It's a terrific series.
Eventually you will probably want to get both, and either one will be a great start. As fond as I am of RRTCM, I have to admit I think Card College is easier to work with and better illustrated. Get Volume 1, and as you go through each chapter you will learn several good tricks to put what you have learned to use right away, and let you enjoy the fruits of your labors. (This is the formula followed by RRTCM also) Godd luck and have fun!

If you're a beginner, a great place to start is Giobbi's "Card College Light". It features only tricks that are self-working. The great thing is that he does his usual good job of instructing you on how to present the effect, not just the moves to do it. And the book organizes effects into coherent routines. You'll learn some great tricks with this book, and you'll also learn a lot about how to be a real magician.

I second airship's opinion - if you're not into all the slights go for Card College Light by Roberto Giobbi.
