Hi guys! Just thought I'd share this handling. Nothing new here really! Perhaps there might be some ideas that you guys want to use from this. It went through quite a number of permutations through the years. Thanks to the friendship and guidance of people like Mike Gallo, Jonathan Townsend, Curtis Kam and my friend Vinny, I ended up with this combination. Again nothing new... this is just the way I do it today! Rannie

Actually there's a lot new there, Boss. I'm seeing a much more interaction with the spectator than you normally get with the average coins across. Sounds like she's (gasp!) actually having fun. This feels like a very professional workhorse type routine. It's the type that magicians rarely share with other magficians.
Very generous of you. |

The touch on the third coin is the best! Keeps the spectator off guard, and at the same time, aghast. lol Same with the fourth coin. Thank you for sharing this sir, and for teaching it to us in the tavern!
Some points I would like to state too. I find this a different one compared to other routines producing the same effect. First of all, there is 'distance'. If you watch the vid over and over again, you'd eventually observe that Rannie moes back, or even moves away, then lets the majic happen right in the spectator's hands. I know, because I was the spectator. He already did this to me numerous times, before its finalization. And I say, even if I am a magician (also a heckler at times) the boss' movements and misdirections (misdirections could also be verbal and tonal) really makes me unaware. There are subtleties used by the boss in this video, if you would observe. Again, I find this different compared to others. Others seem to lack the 'motivation'. Others lack the well, 'drama' of having the coin really cross... this one MAKES the coin cross more magically than ever. Anyway.. for those who's interestd to see this LIVE (camera limits everything) and feel the magic 2 inches near, or even a foot away from you, then coordinate with the boss. I believe he'd be roaming around the states in a few days. Feel it happen. Cyssa (something weird just happened, by the way. I just posted this, then within half a second, my phone rang and it's the boss. lol weird. sir rannie, if ever you read this, PM me the color. hahaha. ) |

Cyssa,
You are so right. That was excellent control of attention. Nice routine. Rannie, have you ever had any of the spectators that are on the side line watching catch that the third coin is already in the persons hand before you tell the person to look at their hand?

Certainly there have be a few. Live performances always have these risks. I say few, because there really have been only a few. Only those who watch like a hawk and miss the magic. I humbly say that more often than not, I get them (the others) to look at me on the third phase. I am very keen on my sorroundings so I can tell. I do either of the two... Some may cringe, but most workers will understand..., 1) I don't do it like I did in the video. I have another way of doingthe third, which can be seen on my older versions. 2) I just do it and sacrifice one or two who might see it.
In general, I would do this one on one. There are times I have to do it as people tend to flock or gather at the site of magic being performed. I always set a tone to my audience. I put just the right amount of distance to protect me as a performer, yet allow them to feel just the right amount of intimacy with me. I also make it clear that the spectator is going to enjoy.... this makes the rest cooperate. I encountered a heckler one time and I simply smiled and said ....what did you expect...? Miracles? I got my laugh, they did as well. When they relaxed I did my last phase a little differently and the heckler applauded like no other. The fourth coin appeared in his left shirt pocket. Rannie

Excellent! Very well done.
You might want to look into Richard Kaufman's "Coin Magic" book for a variation of the HPC. I'm sorry, I don't have access to my copy now to give you the page, etc., but I think it was called, "gary ping chien" (not sure though). It's a very interesting move and might give you a way to change up your HPC. Always enjoy watching your stuff. Thanks for putting it out there. Howard

Hi Marvello! Great to see you here as well. Glad you like it. I was down in San Pedro the other day with The Godfather and he can attest how effective this played for laymen.
Howard, thanks for the reference for the HPC. I am always willing to try anything to make it better. I am however very comfortable with the HPC I use. From the spectators point of view....there is nothing to see. I will get that book however. Thanks again. Goku-San, Domo arigato! my new tomadachi! I'm glad its daijobu with you!LOL! Rannie

The way I look at it is that many things out there whether it be magic tricks ,inventions theres several minds that come up with the same idea .as with me in 1980 I built a walk behind wheeled weed trimmer,an idea I come up with I never seen one ,,then in 1991 I seen acompany named D&R produces a like trimmer & put it on the market,,this is an example of something that more than thought of ,,the magic trick you mentioned at the beginning of this thread is in the same boat
People get angry wheb they see their Ideas come from other sources, you have to get out there & copyright it as soon as you think of it,no anger on my part to D& R,only fair they got to the market before I did ,a freind that experienced the same ,has to think that way to ,its a vicious world out there ,in all subjects,i`m happy that good ideas flow from good minds, its facinating the parellels we share Chuck
theres a lot to learn out there, many interesting subjects, and hobbies to enjoy
