Black Triple Velvet is the Best, a little pricy but worth it.

Or just have them close their eyes . Second suggestion is to use the blackout button. A lot.
Kind Regards

Yes, Denver Fabrics is where I purchase it all the time. The quality is good & the prices are right. They also have an Annex, where you can purchase the odds & ends really cheap. They Usually sell bundles measuring 4 to 6 feet in length at huge savings (about a third of the price)!

I have also purchased from Denver Fabrics and appreciate their quality and price. While I have not run into a problem yet I would like to suggest something that has not yet been mentioned. Try to purchase your velvet from the same bolt or "lot" per order. If you don't you may be left with some differences in appearance due to dye differences per lot. This is not always a huge problem with black velvet but, if you are dealing with less than ideal lighting conditions could make a significant difference.

In addition to lighting the stage I am playing with creative ideas for lighting the borders of the stage. If you look at designs such as Paul Osborne's Black Art Theater (found in his Big Black Book: The First Collection) or the Spook Room as described in Byron Wels book The Great Illusions of Magic you will notice the front is lined with exposed light bulbs. These bright lights help to confuse depth perception for the inner BA space. I am trying to accomplish the same thing using a variety of floor lamps and hanging lamps around the edge of my stage. The placement of the lights does not seem as carnival or contrived as the exposed light bulbs do (my humble opinion of course).
You cannot depend on your eyes when your imagination is out of focus.
