What type of magic? David Copperfield carries his in two semi trucks. I carry my kids show in a divers case (large suit case type thing) and one additional bag. I know others that carry their entire kids show in a briefcase, close up guys can use anything, coolest thing I've seen was a violin case.

Hi totalmagic!
Since we don't really know what type of magic you are talking about yet, it's hard to recommend anything. But if you are talking about any type of close-up magic, I make a product you might be interested in. It is called the High Caliber Holster. Here is a link to the thread on the Café. http://themagiccafe.com/forums/viewtopic......orum=113 Since you are just beginning in magic, this may be a little over the top for you right now. But at least you can see what the working pros are using. When you start doing some shows you may want something like this. Break a leg! Joel Broock High Caliber Magic |

Aside from a few items that look appropriate stuck in pockets, such as a gaffed pen: - I have an Assassin's Pouch ( http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......3&66 ) ready to go with nine or so of my most effective coin, card, rope and paddle props; - I have a compact second camera bag from the $2 shelf at Wal-mart that also can be strung to a belt with additional coin and card props; - I have a 'DVD carrier' bag from Wal-Mart ready to go with table props - close-up pad, chop cup and loads, coin funnel, sponge ball, etc. Larger props, when needed to travel will be packed on an ad-hoc basis as needed. I recommend the Assassin's Pouch. Good luck!

Although I wonder if a deck could ever slip out of those holders.

Joey Stalin,
If you need a spot for your throwing stars, I can do that! The playing card pockets are made with a very slight taper, and I adjust every single one so that it has the perfect tightness. Even if the holster is held with the opening facing down, they won't fall out. But they come out with ease when you need them. Just thought you would like to know! Joel Broock High Caliber Magic |

Too bad the price of that holster is laughable...

I can fit all my props into a Husky attache styled case , that I bought from Home Depot. For a table, I use a piece of fabric covered plywood , with a 5/8" flange attached to it. This is screwed on the threads of a tripod mic stand. I place that case on the stand and I'm all set. However for a larger show I use anything from lager RubberMaid storage containers to laminated road cases for the more expensive and fragile items. So Just take a look at the kinds of props you're using and I'm sure you'll come up with something that will suit you and your show. Best of Luck, B

For your front pants pockets, nothing beats Carl Andrews' "Pocket Pocket", available at http://carlandrews.com/products.html
And for a coat pocket, I've used this for 20 years: Klamm's Pocket Organizer: http://www.klamm-magic.com/cgi-bin/web_s......match=on For close-up: Josh Jay has a nice small pouch-carrier at http://www.joshuajay.com/merchandise.html (scroll down)

A big Lefler Table for kids shows. Small Lefler table for adult shows. Large table and waiters table for street. . . All props fit in backpack.
A single drawer table with close-up pad built into the top for corporate show. That also sits atop a waiters stand. Everything is inside and all are loaded and ready to go. |

Why is the High Caliber Holster so expensive? Michael |

HCM New user 58 Posts |
Michael,
That's a very good question. Just to give you an idea of the amount of work involved, I will share this with you. Each holster uses six different types of leather. In total, about seven square feet of leather. Each and every leather piece is hand cut. There are approximately 50 pieces to assemble when making each holster. Total build time for one holster is about 7 hours. I am proud of my work, and I am a perfectionist. This is not your typical magic shop product. I can quickly name off a dozen magic items that sell for the same price or much more, and don't require a quarter of the labor or materials the holster uses. But, I am not here to trash talk. There are so many cheaply made magic products out there, I am sure everyone who reads this has a few of them. We all have that drawer or box full of magic junk we wish we never bought. People are coming out and marketing magic products that have never been tested in a real working situation, just to make a buck. They don't care if the product is good or not, as long as you and all your friends buy it. These folks are ruining it for everyone. The products I put out were never intended to be sold to the public. I created the holster for myself and then started selling it after I used it for my own work. This product is for working professionals who need to have a management system to make their living. Most working pros can pay for the holster with one gig. To them, the holster is an investment. It's not a trick that gets old, or something that goes out of style. The holster I make is a tool to help you go out there and do your job. I hope I have answered your question, Michael. If you have any more questions, I am here to discuss them with you. |

Thank you very much HCM. I fully understand, and it makes to sense too. Your right about some people putting out incredibley trashy products. And the people that take the time to create a good and sturdy trick or device deserve every dollar they charge. I might have to look into getting one of these.

Jeff McBride is THE man for carrying stuff on his body. He has a belt that would make Batman Jealous! It's a belt you can find at like Hot Topic, or similar store that is is made of a lot of reinforced eyelets that he clips external bags onto. He carrys ALOT of stuff with him like many decks of cards, Sharpies, thumb tips, fake fingers, coins, notepads, and whatever else he wants! The benefit of it all, is that He can decide how much he wants to carry with him. If he decides to carry one bag on his belt, he'll just have one bag on. If he wants 10 bags, the belt can hold 10+. So, if you're interested, find Jeff McBride at your next Magic convention, or find him in Vegas, and see how a Master carries his props.

Magicbillk:
You'd also have to dress like Jeff McBride. I can't think of anyone else who dresses like that. Most guys couldn't carry ten bags of stuff under, and above the edge of, a suit coat! HCM: Great reply!
