As I'm sure a lot of you did, I received the following e-mail from J. C. Sum:

Hi, The Benchmark illusion looks interesting - maybe an alternative to Instant Babe for those with less athletic assistants.
Things are more like they are today than they've ever been before...

Benchmark illusion is clever idea, and I can tell you, that you will happy to use it at all of the time.....
After the production, the bench very thin and impossible to hide even an ant. ;o) I also use his Instant Auto, very nice and easy to build. Other good thin is you do not need many helper to perform as other grand illusion. Cheers, CC. |

I don't know about calling it the "New Standard" in surrounded appearances, but it looks like a decent effect, especially for someone looking for something inexpensive to build.

Hi all,
I think Benchmark looks great and quite fast! It is quite different from typical appearance illusions that require a box and the fact that it can be done surrounded is a big plus for this type of illusion. It is one of the cleanest appearances I've seen. I saw his 3” Hole Trunk illusion and thought it was quite an interesting take on the Sub trunk without the switch. Has anyone else done anything like this before? Is the reaction as strong as a typical sub trunk? |

Bench Mark..being done surrounded... I don't understand... From the looks of the video, the cloth begins already lifted over the table... Is that correct? Not much of a visual for the people in the back. If so that would mean the spectators in nearly 1/2 the viewing area don't see under the table... Is it meant to be turned around like that? That doesn't seem logical to me. Why wouldn't you just begin with the cloth in the down position? Also on the video when the hoop of cloth is lifted the cloth under the table appears to remain still. Seems to me that gives the secret away. Or maybe I'm missing something.
