How about either the "Beneath the Handkerchief" or "Behind the Back" forces?

In my mind the deeper cut force would be the easiest for a child to learn.

Have you tried any of them yet, ddhoudini? I'm going to come up against the same question for an eleven year old soon and I'd be interested in what you tried and which one worked best. Thx.

The 10-20 force is pretty easy. Most 9 year olds can count to 20 and those who can't are given are reason to learn.

Yikes!!!

If you are 9 and can't count to twenty, there are better things than cards tricks to spend your time on!! : )

I like the Balducci force..because after the performer shuffles and hands the pack to the 8yo+ child..the performer can state that he will not touch the cards again. The card(s)will be determined by strictly by their[childs] choices.

Children enjoy being empowered to make decisions. If played up a bit you can have a very entertaining piece in your quiver.

Of late I have been using National Geographic playing cards in these situations....Very nice photos of animals and such.

Best.

I would say the cross cut force, but I don't know the Balducci force. Where can I read more about this force?

Cut Deeper force for sure! I'm sure there are many places you can read about it, but I'm nowhere near my library at the moment!

I use a cross force all the time and it's real easy.

The rollover force taught in Mark Wilson's Complete Course is a simple way to force.
