Can and will anyone recommend a good, free, ad blocker for MS Explorer?

Don't tell me to use Firefox. Most of the time I do. But occasionally I'm forced into MS Explorer, as much as I hate it.

Yes that's a great idea buy a MAC, buy all new software, learn how to use another system, but wait a minute all the poor fellow wanted was a FREE ad blocker, and you have suggested that he goes several thousand dollars debt. HMMMMMM I believe that is a perfect example of throwing out the baby with the bath water.

Hi Al,

Well maybe my advice might come in handy down the road. Now what was your suggestion again?? LOL

BTW... I don't think you've priced a Mac lately. They are priced quite closely to PC's these days. I bought mine for $500.

Best,

Tim, you must have missed the part where I said I was forced into using MS Internet Explorer from time to time.

I don't always get to use the computer or software I would like to. For instance, if I am using a loaner at a remote site or while traveling.

Hi Balducci,

I didn't miss it. I apologize for not having an answer for your situation but my response to my PC friends is always the same. Sorry it was no help for you.

Regards using loaners. If you are borrowing a friends computer then I wouldn't recommend installing any kind of blocker or program on it as they might not appreciate your effort.

Hope you find a solution.

Best,

Tim

You have made a good point I offered no suggestions. My internet provider gives me free ad blocker, and I don't really have this peoblem. My first answer was before I ate dinner, and I'm more agreeable now.

Are you talking about pop-up ads?
If so MSIE7 has a pop-up blocker under 'Tools'.

Jaz to the rescue! The solution was right there and we didn't know it. Until now.

No. Not just pop-ups. I was already aware of the pop-up blocker under 'Tools'.

I'm looking for software that will prevent embedded ads from loading on a page.

Adblock Plus is a great add-on that does this for Firefox.

I'd like to find something similar for IE.

Balducci,
Try Maxthon. It's kind of a IE on steriods. I've used it for years and I just love it. It uses the IE engine so it looks very familiar. It is a tabbed browser with many plug-ins. It has Ad-Blocker that can be customized to block out whatever you want. Best of all it's free (although they ask for a donation if you really like it). You can check it out here:

Just out of curiosity, why don't you just keep using FireFox? Is it missing some functionality for you?

Jaz said it.

I user Opera 90% of the time. But when I'm forced to use IE...IE7 usually takes care of the popups. It's godawful...but it does do the job if need be.

As I said before, popups are not the main problem.

You could use Firefox with said Adblock Plus, and also install the 'IE Tab' extension. Then if you NEED to view something in IE, you just pull up the IE tab.

That's what I use.
