Better stock up on your Silly String before it's taken off the shelf.
EPA Asks Wal-Mart About Silly String Sales The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is asking Wal-Mart Stores Inc. to provide information about its sales of Silly String. In its annual report filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission, Wal-Mart disclosed that the EPA requested information on Silly String, as well as similar products Loony String and Fiesta String. The EPA is investigating the products' use of aerosol, an ozone-depleting substance. Wal-Mart is cooperating with the investigation, collecting information for the EPA. Silly String was originally developed by Wham-O, but is now owned by Just for Kicks Inc. of Watertown, N.Y. |

I wish they'd ban it over here, I hate the stuff. Whenever I do a strolling outside job there seems to always be some goon selling silly string and fart spray thus encouraging gangs of 12 year olds to rush around wrecking entertainers costumes and make everyone smell of poo.

Here is an interesting article on silly string. The military is currently using it in iraq.

Well, does'nt that make sense.
The EPA is given an order by a government who is running out of funding for a war so they use an excuse to pull an item off the shelf...allowing the company itself to right off the product as a loss, saving their "assets" while the government seizes said property and ships it off to the war effort. Brilliant, actually! Of course, that's if it's TRUE...... The government is now making many of it's troops pay for their own gear...I know this firsthand because one of my close relatives is there right now. And they get paid little as it is for their service...I think we can give them all the silly string they require! |

I never used Silly String in my act before. To me it is not important.

I was in a magic shop once where someone bought a can of silly string, shook the can, removed the top, aimed it at someone, sprayed it and the force of the string shooting out of that can was so strong, it knocked the person's glasses off his face and knocked the lense out of the frame. The person was okay, but stunned for a little while. At short distances, it could be dangerous. btw, also heard a report that balloon animals could be dangerous as well. Baby bites balloon doggie and it pops being sucked down the baby's throat.
