Hello, chaps.
Wondering if anyone can help me out with some thoughts on this DVD. It sounds absolutley fantastic. Does anyone have "the scoop" on how practical/effective/well taught the material on Jim's new DVD is? Thanks in advance, Stephen

I don't know. But I think this DVD was a flop. It wasn't really plugged a lot so that means the stuff might not be the best. What I've seen by the preview is it looks very "non creative". Nothing is really amazing on this DVD. I don't have it but if you look around I think you can find a better way to spend your $30. I usually give Jim's stuff the highest rating. I thought this "Tricks from my lecture" video was amazing. Hope this helps.

I've watched half of it. Then I got bored and walked away. I got rid of it the second day I got it.

Lee, I know your intentions are good but you advise in your post that you don't have the DVD. I think it's irresponsible to slam something or to talk positively about something you haven't seen. I see this happen WAY WAY too much generally on the various boards.
A producer and an artist put in a LOT of time, effort, and money in making products available to us. When they are slammed it DOES hurt and it does discourage a producer and an artist from wanting to do more. How would you want to spend countless hours planning and making something and then just get slammed when it is done without someone even looking at it? Please understand that if you have positive OR negative things to say about a product that you have purchased I think that is appropriate to share input but even that should include WHY you feel the way you do. It should not just say "this sucks" or "this is great" - that doesn't do anyone any good. A thorough review of why you would recommend a product or why not (including details) helps others make an educated decision AND it helps the producer and artist LEARN how to improve on future stuff. Comments made without even seeing an item are not fair, they discourage future releases that may be great, and it really serves no purpose. Again, I don't write this to put you down Lee as I see it happening a LOT and I after reading your post I felt it appropriate to bring this point up. I also have NOTHING to do with the Pace DVD and this is not intended to either recommend or not recommend that DVD. I just received it myself but have not had a chance to look at it so will wait to comment. Tim Trono |

The content is fairly much in line with the the title 'Visu-Antics'. A collection of visual, one-offs that you wish to incorporate within routines or use as visual statements.
Pace essentially demonstrates a series of visual one-liners. A few involve the help of a spectator, but overall I was disappointed with the DVD. It is watchable but for me, unmemorable. My opinion has not changed even with a third viewing.

I know Jim personally. I have yet to see his DVD. I will soon. But don't you think it is a bit disrespectful and irresponsible as Tim stated to bash something so quickly from watching just the previews. Jim has an array of incredible talent. Maybe his style isn't your cup of tea. But I suggest that people give him a chance to let him show what he has in store.
No offence to you Lee. I think you are worthy of your opinions as everyone else is. But let's give Jim a chance. |

I ordered it and it came. I was watching the first couple of tricks and thought it was nonsense. I got rid of the thing the next day. Why? Because it looks like something a four year old would do to fool his friends. I love Jim's stuff like his cut and restored rope. I just think this wasn't the best move from him because nothing on this video is "Pace quality." Maybe, someone else has a comment on this video. If you were to get anything from Pace, I would go for one of his other videos or "A" material. Like it was said above in Tim's post I had this DVD, I just looked at the tricks and thought they weren't very good.

I love the DVD and most of the effects were wonderful, and his explanations of the effects were easy to follow.
vinny PS I like his style. |

I have just received this DVD and I felt it was great, the effects are just what it says Visu-Antics. They are short visual openers that would get an audience intrested, they are just 'visual one-liners' that show you are a good magician and not just 'Uncle Bob' about to do the 21 card trick.
I agree that's it's not all great material. I dislike the Magic List and I'm not sure about Crushed - I feel the appearance could be good but the vanish does seem weak. Honk is useless and I've not even tried it. I loved The Bet, Hat Tricks seems like great fun, Freaky Fork is good and TV Coin looks amazing. The other effects on the DVD seem good, but I've only watched it once and not used any of the material. Overall, I feel it's a great DVD with some wonderful flashy opening effects. With the effects only being short, there are alot of effects packed into it and I'm sure there is something you would like. After watching this I've decided that his 'A' material would be a good buy. (I feel anyone who watched half of it and got rid of it is missing out on some good material)

I saw the demo and I thought the way he stuck his arm in his cap was pretty cool.

Actually, The Magic List was one of the best, most practical "openers" for walk-around mentalism I've ever seen. I'm going to use this. Some of the items are throw-aways, no doubt. Other things are real winners (e.g. the arm in the hat is hilarious and very cool). I couldn't imagine not at least looking at every item on a DVD before tossing it. Keep an open mind and at least give them a chance.

I guess I'll put in my two cents on this one. Jim is a good friend of mine and I believe one of the most creative minds in magic today. So you can say I'm a little biased but I'll try not to be.
With that said, if you are looking for a DVD with routines that your audiences will love this is not the DVD for you. This DVD is full of great openers or quick "Visu-antics" or highly visual tricks to amaze people. If you have seen Jim's G.A.G.S. video you will know where he is coming from with this one. My personal favorites are: E.S.P. Card Sword, Quick-o-Chink, Hat Trick, The Magic List, and Freaky Fork. The first time I ever saw Jim do Freaky Fork and Quick-o-Chink my jaw dropped. As for Pyro, here's some advice before trying to give a review, have the respect to watch the whole thing. Maybe if I saw you perform and only watched the first trick and said you sucked you wouldn't appreciate it. Like I said, just my two cents. Get this DVD it is well worth the $30. |

Hi,
Is the bottle production and vanish on the dvd any good? I saw a demo of him performing a bottle production with a flame device. Is this the same production? Phillip |

Hey there,
I finally got my hands on a copy of the dvd. He sure put a lot into this. It looks pretty darn good. I too am a friend of Jim's. So there is some bias. Haha. But I want to just say that this dvd is perfect if you want that little kicker opener for a magic routine. It is also perfect for those who want a great way to get attention at a party. Phillip - The bottle production/vanish is awesome! I am already playing with it. People who want to just show a quick trick and not go into a whole long routine or anything due to time, pick up this dvd! Its awesome! Jim explains everything clearly and you'll be performing these in no time. My personal favorites: Penzoil & Water, Quick O Chink, BS Prediction, Mental Card Stab, Magic List, Hat Trick, and Stealing Away... Ok I like em' all. Brian |

In all honesty, P.B., the water bottle vanish and reproduction is not the greatest. It MIGHT fly if your audience is a little asleep, but otherwise, I wouldn't chance it (maybe use a smaller bottle?). However, there are many other items on the DVD worth a looksey.

As many have already said, this DVD is well worth the purchase price. Quick o Chink is great. The freaky fork looks better than other metal bending routines I've seen (and doesn't require any setup!), and the Impromptu Princess and Penzoil and Water has me rethinking my decision to focus on coins. I'll be on the lookout for more of his DVD's.

Ya... I saw this DVD and I was just like... 30 bucks for this? The guy teaches you how to honk with your throat when you touch something. It's really annoying. Some of the material is all right. But definitely not anything I would use.

I watched the thing over the past few says and like Ben said I thought that it was really bad...and not worth the money. I thought Jim was pretty good and a few things on the DVD were really good, but over all I think it sucked.
????.....Yeah

Wow....Pace really seems to be a matter of taste. I just got the DVD in the mail today....I rarely buy, but was just curious and hadn't seen this thread until this morning. A number of you had me nervous, but I really enjoyed it. As others have said, if you're looking for extended routines rather than quickies, you will be disapointed.
I really enjoyed it and just ordered his other material. I esp. like how he thinks about the effects, is also willing to take a chance, and comes off as a very relaxed performer. |
