Michael I sincerely hope the Ontario Sharpie is not accomplished the way I think it is, because that's certainly nothing new. I hope you've done proper research before selling the product, to make sure that it is in fact original.
The cups routine was decent but way, way too long with too many similar phases. Condense it and definitely work on getting it down a little smoother. Good start though - also I wasn't a fan of the balls appearing from your mouth at the end. Just not for me. Empty Thoughts was too dark almost to see what was happening. Because it was in such poor lighting, I cannot honestly critique it. The Mexican Revolution wasn't bad, but it needs a little work on the handling. The count at the beginning was too slow - the Jack of Diamonds is too obviously there twice. The twisting phases were executed very nicely (I'd almost forgotten why I used to perform this effect), but when you turned the jack back over, it was clear that something was wrong. Make sure to wrist kill as you turn the jack back face down in order to over the little discrepency there. Also make sure you get the patter down a little smoother at the end - you kept repeating "all four jacks" over and over as you very, very, very slowly counted through them at the end. Keep improving and showing us more! |

I've only had time to watch the cups and balls rotuine but I didn't think it was decent at all...
Balls falling from the top of the cups MULTIPLE times, failing to properly cover the balls up with the cups by lightly tipping the cup, the handling was way too fast and seemed way too much like a really bad ad-lib performance. To give some credit, I was probably worse then you were then I was 13 - but publishing lecture note at your skill level seems a little far-fetched. |

Mc-magi, was just about to say that. If you publish notes you will regret it later on and feel stupid when you are a lot better. Take the time to work on your basic sleights so they are a little less awkward. Good luck.

They are not lecture notes, but rahter magic manuscripts. Also, my cups are old and flat and it is normal for the balls to fall off to top. The Cups and Balls is one of my favourite routines to perform. Also, how do you know what the magic in my ebooks are like if you haven't purchased a copy. If you would like to, I am sure you would be pleasantly surprised. As a side note, my sleights do not feel at all akward.
Regards, Michael Kras

Alright. But I am commenting on what I saw in the video. All I'm saying is you are only 13. You have plenty of time to create, practice, and publish. I am 15. I have many, many ideas and creations of my own. But I do not plan to publish for a very long time because until I have taken the time to be a student of magic, I won't teach it. Just take that into consideration.

Exactly as I thoguht - someone posts asking for "honest opinion" but in all honesty, all they were doing was fishing for petty compliment.
Fast, jerky movements, unsteady hands and having trouble aligning cards.... for an effect you created, your handling ought to be much better than that. I bet if I asked you what Ibidem and Hierophant were, you'd have no idea either. |

I could be terribly, terribly wrong since I only watched it once, but in "empty thoughts" did you ditch a card by dropping it to the floor? Just wondering about the revolutionary method you came up with for a clean show of two blanks during the effect and have everything immediately examinable at the end. You did say it was examinable correct?

Cody, that's what I was thinking too. I was almost positive that he dropped the extra card to the floor. That's the only way to come cleanly with that method. Michael and I talked about this briefly in a PM, and hopefully he takes the advice to do some research into methods before claiming them as either original or revolutionary.
Still, he may very well have created this effects without any knowledge of previous methods - independent recreation. Doesn't make it right to pass it off as your own once you know the truth, but it certainly shows a lot of creativity in a very young kid. |

No, sir, you're not going to con me of my money to see what you have to offer in your 'notes'. Well, almost everyone thinks their sleights are good and not awkward. People always think they're better than they really are anyway. What others have said to you, you should take heed. Or else, why bother fishing for petty compliments? Quote:

For your sake, Michael, here are my comments on your videos: Cups and Balls - Your movements are too rushed and there isn't any timing/tempo. You would speed up and slow down suddenly and it makes everything jerky and not smooth. Too many similar phases that does the same thing. Honestly, I turned it off after the 2nd minute. So... yeah. Empty Thoughts - Eh... I really don't think you originated this effect. Seems very very generic and too short to carry any sort of worthwhile patter. I mean, your patter in the video is okay but I thought it was a bit too abrupt that you ended there. How you remove the *ahem..other...ahem..card..* is pretty obvious. Mexican REVOLUTION - Like what others have said, your count with the Jacks in the beginning is too slow. I think this is one of the better videos from you and you did well. However, it's a lot like one of Guy Hollingworth's effects. Is it Reformation or something? I can't remember the exact name, though. Ontario Sharpie - I agree with Brian. Looks a lot like something else. But anyway, DID YOU EAT THE SHARPIE?! So, there ya go.

Keep practicing, Michael: maybe one day you'll be good enough to publish your own stuff because you are far from talentless.
But not yet, eh? Ontario Sharpie: if that's a pen on a p**l then it's not original! Cups n Balls: too long, and try to vary the patter from "Now I do this, now I'll do that..." Card effects: couldn't see them! |

Though I did indeed like the In the Fist handling. It had a nice retention quality to it. |

Michael,
You need to turn on signatures in your "Preferences" not just your profile. I'm glad you like Cups and Balls. I just wish your performance supported statements like: Quote:
My skill level is beyond what you may think as well, Cody. At present, I think your skill level is *exactly* what we think it is. What references do you have for Cups and Balls? Whatever they are, throw them away! Loaded cups should *not* be held mouth up. Held out balls should *not* be in a clenched fist. You should *not* have to narrate every move as if you're performing for the blind. Load moves should *not* look like you're stuffing something in the cups. You should *not* look like you're playing with yourself in your pocket. Get it? I can forgive the occasional dropped ball, and the missed load at the :20 mark. What I can't forgive quite so easily is that you think it's worthy of posting on Youtube. PM me. I have some performance video clips you need to see.

Its funny everyone says this! because about 3 months ago mike asked me to read sum and review.. I told him they were good INNOVATIONS not INVENTIONS cause I told him sum(most) of this had been done before and he continued arguing that it was an original handeling ot technique

Not true, Daniel. I agree that some of them are innovations and new handlings, but some of many of my effects are original.

Dave,
Thank you for your advice. That video is from a long time ago, and I am sure you would find my Cups and Balls routine to be much improved. I never fail to leave them out whenever I do my close up work. Some handlings I have discovered have even given me standing ovations from my magic peers. I have taken your advice well, and will probably go for a new set of cups, as mine are old and the balls constantly roll off them.
