I have wanted to start silk magic for a while and want to know what equipment/books/DVDs I should get the only thing I really have on silk magic is the small amount about it in Mark Wilson’s Complete Course in Magic

I enjoyed learning from Rice's Encyclopedia of Silk Magic (several volumes), and also from several of Duane Laflin's videos (now on DVD).

Hi Mark:
I will second Donald's recommendations of Rice and Laflin. You can now buy Rice's Encyclopedia on CD-ROM and save some money. Keep in mind that the first three volumes were written some 40 years ago, and some of the information is dated - kind of like the Tarbell books. However, there is really great information to be found in them. They're about the best thing I've found for inspiration. I really like everything of Laflin's that I've bought. He is an outstanding teacher and magician. A good place to start might be his double-DVD set of "Simply Beautiful Silk Magic" and "Sensational Silk Magic". You get a real wide variety of silk magic on these DVDs, and I think the cost is only about $25.00. Ron |

As others have already said Mr. Rice's books and Duane Laflin's vides and books are great. I have several of Duane's DVD's as well as his book Greater Gospel Magic and they are all very good. The DVD I find myself watching the most is Silken Sequences and Steals. He teaches how to put together a complete routine. ChrisG

Get everything you can on the subject. Tarbell, Rice's Silk Encyclopdia, Duane Laflin, Pavel, Chanin, and Ade Duvall.
Ron is right about the double DVD set from the Laflins. It is some of the best silk magic around. David W. |
