No offense intended, but this is an oft-repeated myth. I have performed thimble magic many times for people aged 12 to 22. The first thing I do is hold up a bright red plastic thimble and say."Does anyone know what this is?" They practically all say, "It's a thimble". It is no problem at all.

Best regards,

I agree. There is nothing wrong with using thimbles as long as you aren't 200 feet away.

Or light them properly.

I use thimbles with absolutely no explaination as to what it is, it doesn't really matter what it is. It's a red thing stuck on the end of my finger, and that's where the magic comes in... it's stuck there and wont go away, until there's 8. People don't care what it's supposed to be, they're caught up in the conflict and magic that is being presented.

When my magic starts to look like normal everyday objects I'm gonna quit... I wanna be extraordinary with strange and marvelous props. That to me, is magic! (Since when did you see a wizard with normal everyday items?)

I have used Bill Severn's idea of 'finger bandage' to GREAT SUCCESS...

With all the colors of that self ticking wrap bandage stuff..you can do great/bright color changes too!

Like jimmagic, I too have seen shoot's thimbles live and they are great. I highly recommend his routine. It may seem overwhelming at first but it really isn't and it happens to be very fun to perform.
