Hi
The best reaction I get is from signed card to mouth. It's not that hard a trick to do although you do have to watch your angles. Also, Two Aces changing to two Kings is good for walk about as it appears to happen in the spectators hand. Ambitious card obviously as an old standard is good. It is very versatile and can be altered to suit your own style and skill level. All the best. Rob |

I love this kind of search...all part of the fun of magic. So, just to put in my own suggestion.....there is one card trick I do ALL the time when strolling. It meets all my original conditions and is THE PERFECT way to start performing for a group (none of this "did you lose a penknife" nonsense). If anyone is interested it is a creation of UK magician Roy Johnson (who says it is the most commercial trick he has ever created). If anyone is REALLY interested I could even tell you what it is.......

Las Vegas Leaper! In ANY of it's incarnations. Nothing stronger. No remembering a card or signing necessary, no table, either.

Not one mention of Bob Sheets "Killer Kitson Miracle"?! It's a three card monte, done in the hands, perfect for strolling and can be done completely surrounded and apparently, no one else does it...lol!

I use Johny's Transpo. An effect on one of the Ace Palmer vids. No table, it happens in their hands and the reason I think it might be better than Tradeshow Transposition is that you only have to manage a face down card in one person's hand, rather than two. Same effect to a lay audience, possibly better because the card in their hand is produced from your pocket. David Malek uses an effect identical to this when he opens a card set.

Another vote here for Sankey's Back in Time. Also, I don't know if it was mentioned but Monkey in the Middle is a GREAT quick, visual, and instantly repeatable effect for strolling.

A really cool walkaround card trick is in David Acers book "Random Acts of Magic" there are some really great routines in there, the one I use is about showing them sleight of hand, can't remember what it's called off the top of my head though.

Errr I think you mean Roy Johnson. Okay, the effect is Lucky Cards - without doubt THE most commercial card trick I have ever come across. As well as being perfect for strolling it is the ideal effect to customise for corporate events where you are promoting a company, service or product.
I must have performed this thousands and thousands of times and it always gets a great reaction......and the best thing is there are no sleights, it instantly resets and can be performed completely surrounded in the spectators hand. Over the years I've added lots of little "touches" but the basic effect is still killer. It was released ages ago by Roy Johnson and also appeared in a set of his lecture notes. Good luck with the search !!! |

Yes...... I did mean Roy Johnson.. I'm always getting those two confused. I mean, I've only ever heard of Roy Rogers, Roy Walton & Roy Johnson by way of people whose surname is Roy. Apart from Roy Kinnear, of course. And Roy of the Rovers.. but I think he was purely fictional. Roy Keane doesn't count either.
Anway,.. I do agree that Lucky Cards is a great trick.. the only thing I have against it is the fact that the speccy goes away empty handed. I used to use it years back, and the "prize" would be the opportunity to win £20, or a bottle of champagne. I used it as a stage effect...and I'd feel obliged to give the unlucky spec a consolation prize. But I always felt it was a bit of a ****-take. In front of a load of people. I'll need to look at it as a close-up effect, and thinking about it, it would fit better. Much better to be made an arse of in front of a few friends.. than in front of an entire seated audience. As a matter of interest, how do you cushion the blow (of losing)? Or don't you bother?

Got your notes this morning (fri) thanks paul g
funny, but I saw harry robson pefrom the same trick, 2 card transpo, on his "magic under fire" dvd I overlooked it, thinking it was a bit basic but after reading all this, and your notes (which have some other top tricks!!), I think I'll give it a go I think when harry performed it, he doesn't let the 2nd spec see the card that you show to the 1st spec, a minor touch I suppose anyway, if it always plays well with layman, I'll fit it in somewhere! by the way paul, what are you currently opening with when strolling? thanks for everyone elses comment, chris c, I'm just off to dig out my richard sanders dvd, another one I forgot about! |
