Just thought I'd mention theres a NEW addition to the Baluk Family of Doves., lol.
They've been sitting on an egg for the past 21 days and it hatched this morning! They've had eggs hatch before and the chicks never survived over a day. I never saw one alive... ...until this morning just a few minutes ago! It hatched and its healthy and alive! Here's a video: http://www.markbaluk.com/vids/newbird.wmv |

Hey Mark, is there another egg around? They always lay two at a time. You might get lucky again.

Congrats Mark! - I just had one two weeks ago. The other egg never fully developed and was left to spoil. Its easier on the doves to take care of one than 2, and easier on your too! Congrats again....pretty soon you'll be like Dave with 40 doves!

At this point, Mark, how about baldy? Just kidding. I never name my birds until they get feathered and I can get some idea of their sex. I'm always wrong. Pete becomes Petricia, Frank becomes Francis and so on. Try thinking of a generic name to be on the safe side. Of course, doves aren't like dogs, they don't know what a name is and won't respond when you call it anyway.

1- I don't want a "human" name.
2- It doesn't matter to me if its a boy or girl. 3- I have 5 other birds. Two are unnamed, the other three are Hedley, Squirt, and Snoopy. |

If you have a male and a female dove, breeding is quite easy. It's the care after birth that takes the time and space.
