A year or so ago, I saw a performer use a routine in his show that interested me greatly. Basically, he stood on stage and asked a spectator questions, such as what number are you thinking of and so on. When he turned a pad of paper he was holding around, answers such as a seriel number were written instead of the number and so on. The answers made sense, but werent the correct ones. Anyone out there know where I can find this routine at?

I am not certain who you saw, I do know that Kardor does a comedy style mentalism act, but I do not know if the "Act" is for sale.

If the answers weren't the correct ones it seems as though you could just make this up and use any ol' numbers.

I have been doing close-up magic for some 30 years now having never strayed into mentalism. Can anyone suggest a way to start? Whether it be books or DVD's, I want to get my feet wet in this and begin with a sound foundation. I would prefer PM's as I have trouble finding these threads again. Thanks

Rpierce,

There is only one place to start and that is with Corinda's 13 Steps. Walk before you attempt to run. As a magician your beginning should have been Fitzkees Trick Brain. First learn the basics then whatever follows will make more sense to you.
Imagine how Slydini started!

Nope. But, I'm 70 years old. I won't last forever. Patience.

Sounds like you are talking about Cody Fisher's Fifty Two Thoughts. Which starts as a series of "Mentalism" gags.

Norman Houghton has a similar routine published in his book "Wit and Wizardry". It is called Chinese Mindreading and the magician claims to have learned mindreading from an ancient Chinese manuscript. After 5 years he mastered it only to find that as Chinese is read backwards he has learned reverse mindreading. In other words he only can work out what the spectator is not thinking of. The routine that follows is hilarious and well worth looking up if you are looking for a comedy mentalism routine.

The description sounds like "Mindreading 101".
