He took a new approach to magic. He combined several arts -- magic, dance, music -- and made it all blend together. And he scripted every move. I think that's his secret ... there's nothing left to chance. It was fun to watch even if you didn't particularly like magic.
Granted, there's also very few "surprise" moments, the kind that can really add interest to a show, but then he doesn't need them, does he? Does anyone think his days may be numbered? It's no secret that he hasn't done TV in years ... where will the new fans come from? Or has he reached the "Sinatra" stage where he'll go on forever, regardless of the current trends and pop culture? |

Deke, I do think he is an Icon, he could go on and on, his succes is cause of the planning on every of his shows, like the "snow storm" thing where he tell this story about how he never saw snow and then one morning his mome wake him up and is snowing, then he produces snow, really... I had seen this effect tons of time, and David´s is the best presented, of course, some million dollars helps, but at least for this sequence, is not that necesary that quantity of money, yet is very creative and make a not so big stage effect into a huge experience.

Passion. His work can be very emotional. How did you feel when David talked about flying as a child and then he did. Or how about snow and portal. there were people crying next to me when I went to see him last year during portal. Think about the floating rose routine when at the end he lights it on fire and it turns into a real rose. He is an excellent story teller/actor.
