Man....April Winchell's response struck me as about the dumbest thing I have read in weeks.
Oh, well....to each his own.
My ex-cat was named "Muffin". "Vomit" would be a better name for her. AKA "The Evil Ball of Fur".

I must listen to too much hip hop - I thought 'ho' was a term of endearment.

Here is Don Imus' 1974 record album:

I don't know about ho's. I hired some kids right out of highschool for a Summer once, and I admit I don't know any kids that age, and let met tell you, I was shocked. The boys called the one girl (who was the only one with any brains) a 'ho', this is obviously not a good thing. I called her over and the first thing out of her mouth was "I know, I'm a dumb ho"...I didn't know what to do as she didn't seem to take it as an insult. Being a wonderful guy I fired all the guys, kept the girl for another week until she called my boss, who I told her not to call, and told him she wasn't coming to work as she needed to make a phone call. That was it for my teen experience but the moral is I don't know if ho is bad or not any longer. I also think Stevie Wonder needs to lose his recording contracts cuz he wrote the line "...just a nappy headed boy".

Jeez I haven't shown up in here in a minute or two I guess.
Here's the skinny on Imus.... First and foremost...Imus is a jerk anyway. Everyday he's a jerk and makes lewd comments...like 90% of the other jocks out there. They all make racial, sexual, religious cracks every day. What was said in this instance may have been in bad taste but it was no different than all the crap. Here was the problem - Imus should have never apologized in the manner he did. His only apology should have been "I'm sorry anyone was offended, the comment, as are most comments on this and other shows was made in jest" That's it. End of Discussion. And for the record, Rev. Jackson and his good buddy Al Sharpton are hypocrites in this as they are in most of these "causes" they go in on. I don't like Imus, but the actions taken against him are waaay overboard and his station will be sorrry when they lose the dollars he brought in.

On 2007-04-12 22:48, MAKMagic wrote: Well, the jury is out on that. CBS has been reducing its radio holdings, and Imus only accounted for a tiny, tiny portion its overall revenue. From money.cnn.com "Last year, radio accounted for 14 percent of CBS' total revenues. Sales fell 7 percent at the division in 2006 and operating income before depreciation and amortization, a key measure of profitability in the media business, fell 11 percent. [T]he media company, which also owns a big outdoor advertising business and the flagship CBS broadcast network, has been reducing its exposure to radio since the company split from former Viacom (Charts) last year. The company sold several stations in smaller markets last summer. According to estimates from several analysts, Imus accounted for about $20 million in ad sales for CBS last year. To be sure, that's only about 1 percent of the radio unit's total revenue in 2006. Baker said that dumping Imus could actually be a financial positive for CBS. Even though the company would lose advertisers by getting rid of him, it already looks like they will lose advertisers if they keep him. Plus, Baker said CBS should be able to lure back advertisers by firing Imus and that the company also would probably hire a much younger (i.e. cheaper) replacement for Imus. And lower costs could boost profits in the radio business." Besides, with comments like this (see link below) from Imus in the past, it wouldn't surprise me at all if his bosses were not already just looking for a good opportunity to can him: forward.com

It's not about PC. It's not about politics. It's about racism, sexism and lack of class. If they were your daughters, talked about that way nationwide . . . is that act of imagination and empathy too difficult?
Speaking of class: the words of C. Vivian Stringer, the coach: http://www.scarletknights.com/news/release.asp?prID=5203 As for Imus being an off the air racist, read about his 1998 "60 minutes" interview where he denied ever using the N word, and then had to backtrack, as he had just said it to a producer off the air. Wow I never thought I would agree with Chessman! Jack Shalom

There's a clip of the Imus broadcast on YouTube.
I could hear the instant disapproval from the entire studio present and the awkward silence there even from Imus himself at the comment. If you have not heard or seen the clip I encourage you to study it. He moved on. Some folks didn't and instead took this matter into our cultural gutter. All who got involved can stay in the gutter as far as I'm concerned.

I guess only whites can be racist. I constantly hear black comedian's and rapper's using all kinds of racial and sexist slurs directed at all races and sexes including the black community.
I guess it was ok when Jesse Jackson spit in the water he served to the white patron's in the resturant he was working at while in college. Maybe the black rapper's and comic's should take the lead and set the good example for the rest of us biggot's to follow. Just my whacko take on this subject. Iven

He made a mistake and apologized. A 2 week suspension was enough. It's amazing how quickly the media can destroy a person.

It's amazing how quickly the media can destroy a person. Perhaps they're rehearsing for something big, something really, really big! Are there any questions about who's really in charge? It's the, if we don't have a story make one up, PC, liar-liar, race baiting, tea totaling media; who when are caught with their pants down give a sorry as't apology buried between coupons and busty lingerie adds beneath the fold.
