Okay - I haven't posted too much here because I have been spending a whole lot of time just searching through the various forums - The Café is HUGE!
Anyhow - I've been putting together the beginnings of a stage routine (well actually I'm just in the idea stage, writing ideas, dreaming - that kind of thing;) and I am wondering about ethics and such when it comes to Illusion plans (please keep reading I will explain:) Basically I have been performing magic for a year seriously now - all closeup Restaurant / parlour work. The decision to move to the stage simply came with the Inspiration of seeing a few of the current Illusionist out there and expiriencing what is possible. I have a good grounding in buisness operations, and financial management - and I understand that this takes TIME! - which isn't bad. However, What I'm wondering is what type of rights to you have to obtain and from who when purchasing Illusions / Plans? For example: Say you purchase a pair of Osbourne Illusion plans, like a metamorpheses - but then modify it so that the illusion is executed in a slightly different way - would it be normal to see if your style is close to anyone else's in order to secure rights? Or does it depend on the Illusion? For Instance - an Osborne Illusion Plan (metamorphisis) vs say a Mark Parker designed Illusion? I should clarify that I do take ethics very seriously, and am doing my best to get to know the various people on this forum, as well as educate myself on the vast VAST history of magic and performance that is available to me. I have no intention of jumping into anything - and so far my first prop is just a deceptive base from Osbourne Illusions. Thanks for reading - and I hope the question makes sense. Any opinions are greatly appreciated. Devingion. |

What Illusion are you putting on your deceptive base?

From my understanding the Deceptive base is pretty much a general utility device in the sense that it can be used for quite a lot of illusions. For now I'm probably going to modify it for one of Mark Parker's illusions out of his illusion book(haven't decided which one yet as they are all pretty darn good.) I'm not 100% sure yet though as I'm still just basically coming up with ideas and then researching them.

You can ask Mark, he's on the Café here and he can help you. I am building one of his illusions, just waiting on the carbon fiber to come and I can continue again.

Im not a lawyer but when it comes to magic apparatus... right and stuff aren't really held up too much regarding the lawmakers view of the stuff... I may be wrong, but I say through ethic to the wind --- do you think microsoft got big because it was ethical... no way they stole the software ideas from Apple... and heck Apple stole it from Xerox!..
