I need a levitation where the audience is nearly surrounding the performer. The distance to the stage in every direction is approx. 10 feet. I cannot use an azrah because in this particular instance we need to see the levitating performers face. There is a small protion directly upstage of the levitating performer that will not have spectators. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Those are some pretty tight performing conditions for most levitations. Off hand, if a suspension will suffice, I would suggest a Sword or Chair Suspension.

Yeah I cannot use a suspension. The performer needs to move from the stage deck into the air between 3 and 4 feet.
I saw a levitation where the person floating went completely around the magician...it looks expensive however. I believe DC used it with a jungle theme and then I saw ( I think a German ) magician do a romantic version of the same levitation. It was in a womans bedroom etc etc etc. Anyone know the name of that levitation and can it be done in a 3/4 round audience. JHG |

Why does the magician need to be four feet in the air completely surrounded? Why do you have to see his face?

Not the magician...the person being levitated. Sorry for the confusion.

I myself have never seen a levitation that could be done surrounded.. nor a suspension. Let us know if you find one, that would be interesting. I guess Copperfields Pole levitation could be done seeing the gimmick is hidden by the pole used in the performance.
Criss Angel does one, but camera and editing tricks as well as a set up audience is needed. Cant consider that much of being a magician. Just a great production crew. |

Very simple, just make sure the person you levitate was born on Krypton. I'm afraid you are going to have to manufacture that one yourself. Just a bit tight for the commercially available levitations out there.

For enough money, you could just build a "FLYING." All the clips I've seen have audiences on stage left and right, as well as the regular seating. None in back, I don't think.
Anyway, the lighting can hide that easily enough, but that's a hefty price tag... |

My Lullaby levitation can be done completely surrounded. Girl floats up, tracks horizontally throught the foot rail ( which acts like a hoop) does a 180 rotation and descends. Self-contained in the bed and magi can move freely around her. However the girl only rises 18 inches off of the bed. Check it out at Dickensmagic.com.
FYI-flying rig cannot be done surrounded and lighting would be difficult from the sides.

Freakin awesome levitation.... finally something new that makes sense to reality! Thanks Craig!
Are you saying the audience can surround this as the topic asks? Either way, genius! Ive sketched up a couple levitations with a real bed scene, but you thought outside of the box here! |

I performed this in the round for an ice show at the Drury Lane theatre in Chicago. There is nothing to see all the way around.

Check out Corradin's Levitation on the Hocus-Pocus website. It can be done surrounded and close-up. The person is covered though which might be a problem for you.

I remember someone performing either this or something similar in one of the WGM specials.

Actually it was Craig performing this illusion himself on one of the "Great Magic of Las Vegas" specials.. he also performed his Harbin head mover as well.

Wow, Craig, truly a work of art. Never seen an AGA look that good. It's the presentation that brought it to the next level, in my opinion. It's definitely something I'd wanna own. Another illusion added to my wish list.

I agree, it looks like another one of those videos where someone does the Dancing Cane, a beautiful effect, for too long and kills it.
Craig's, on the other hand, is very motivated with a nice story! Josh London |
