Well sorta anyway. . . .sorry this will be long winded, I have marked the point towards the bottom if you really want to skip down.
Just background note, not a professional magician, just do it as a hobby for kicks (expensive hobby . . .). Anyway, I did a show before Christmas as an intro to a singing act. Someone who was in the audience asked me to do a 30 minute show for a local charity even a week from today (they asked a week ago). I was like "sure, I love this stuff." When I asked about the venue is whent he problems started. They are building a stage out of folding tables tied together (someone pray for me . . .) in a park. After hearing this I realized my current show won't work at all as I use mostly things centered around black art. I also used s sub trunk that I built, but angles are very important for it. So, I thought "Cool time to design a new show." In designing the show I decided I decided to put two big illusions, one at the beginning one at the end. Therefore, I did a crystal casket to make my assitant appear and a built a table illusion that works mostly like a dakota chair (the basic idea is in book four of Osborne's illusion books, though I have modified it heavily) I have finished constructing the casket and have only the form left on the table illusion. THE POINT OF THE POST My thinking was that I would use a portable curtain that I built. It takes me a bout five minutes to setup, duriing which time I have my assistant out working up the audience. This would allow us both to go "Backstage" open the curatin and start the show (with her set in the casket). However, I found out today that they have put a canopy on the stage that is shorter than my portable curtain. So that idea is out. My backup idea was to simply have the assistant loaded in the casket when we got to the stage and start straight out that way. Same thing with ending illusion, just the opposite. Few problesm with this plan, it means 1. She has to stay in those props for a long time. 2. I have to recruit someone else to help me put the props up on the stage and take them down, and as soon as they got to pick up the illusions they will know the secret. 3. My assistant is a student I conned in to helping me. I really want her to have a chance to take a bow before the audience after the show. I have thoguht of simply reversing the table illusion and making her re-appear, so she could take a bow, but I don't know . . .does that cheapen the illusion???? I also thought if I could somehow get her back into the casket and have her appear over there it would be great, but I can't think of a way to do it. Like the osborne plan that inspired it, it only has the one exit and I am drawing a blank on a way to get to point B from point A. I have been brain storming all day and am drawing a blank on what to do. If anyone has any suggestion I would appreciate it greatly. Oh on a subnote, this project has introduced me to two new building materials that I can't sing the priases of highly enough. Plexiglass and fabric (as opposed to painting). Thanks Rich |

I knew posting in here was a good idea. Just posting in here has got the creative juices flowing again. Have two different ideas, just got to see if they will work at practice today.

Yep and practiced it through to make sure it would work. Just had a mental block in place for a bit there and needed something to jar me back into motion.
Thanks for replying! Rich |
