I watched him threaten a person at last year's performance. He said, "You better put that camera away or I'll take it!", and it wasn't in a friendly tone. There was a brief chuckle from the audience, but they quickly realized that he was not pleased. I'm surprised that he doesn't just have a goon squad monitor the theater for cameras, and have them do the dirty work.

I saw Mystere last summer; the show staff had to confiscate four or five cameras during that performance. They don't ask, either...they send someone over who takes the phone or camera and hands you a claim check. They give you back your camera after the show, but they won't let you leave until you've deleted any photos or clips you took during the performance.

The alternative is to leave without benefit of a refund.

There's something about common sense and common courtesy that seems to evade a lot of people nowadays -- like having the technology entitles you to use it. Yeah, I vote for goon squads like other entertainers use... along with a clear sign or notice or voice-over (or all of them) prohibiting the cameras.

I promote the use of cameras at my show. Although, I am a mentalist so not as much to hide prop-wise.... but it's great having free advertising seeing people tend to pass the pictures around to other people. Before performing the matrix suspension, I suggest to everyone to get their cameras out and ready.

I can see where some magicians have to limit camera use. Video cameras are not allowed at my show at all and I do have a staff member who confiscates the item and keeps the tape. The camera is immediately given back and the spectator is told that they will be escorted out on the next occasion. I've never seen a problem with still cameras, even as a past illusionist.

Blueman group allows camera's and video as well in their live tour. If I'd have known it would have been cool I'd have taken some very cool photos. . . I guess for the MAGI it makes more sense to ban camera's for flash & propriatary reasons...

Okay, I can accept that some performers don't have a problem with cameras.

How about flash?

Ryan, do you recall that clip of '13' a while ago and you could see that something. Can you imagine having a still photo to examine? I think it is rude to take pictures during a show no matter who or what you are watching, unless they specify that it is ok. Copperfield allows meet and greets and usually signs autographs where you can take plenty of photo's.

Greetings;
Sometimes it is not just about secrets, last time we were in Vegas, we went to see KA at MGM. There was a large sign stating no photography, yet there were people who were snapping flash shots left and right.
One of the sliders on the giant hydraulic gyrating stage disappeared during that part of the show, later we found out that they were blinded by the flash of a camera and slid off the platform. Thank God the young lady was not killed, but she did get bruised pretty bad.
My sister just returned last week and said that they now make an announcment at least three times and check you as you enter with a electronic wand as well as checking all bags. Why people cannot just use common curtesy, I do not know. I wonder how they would react if the roles were reversed and their safety was the subject.
All the Best

Nice shots. Did you take those during LDI?

I have to say I have a hard time buying the story about the performer who was injured from the flash photo. The reason they don't want you taking pics is not because of it being particularly dangerous to the performers, but because of copyright reasons. If you figure the number of much brighter stage lights, many of which flash, flicker, and move about, that are shining on the performers throughout the show...

Well. In this case - The "void" under this stage is very deep. There are Airbags - but. Can still be deadly when some ******* decides to take a photo of you when your on that thing. So, I do understand if someone fell from this could be very bad.

Leapinglizards: Lets look back a few posts: martini " last time we were in Vegas, we went to see KA at MGM. The show we're mentioning is KA. At the MGM (Cirque Du Doleil)

I just found going to the website you too can see behind the scenes of this remarkable show. Check it out:

As a pro photgrapher I have to say "blinded by flash" is nonsense, especially the small cameras punters have.Stage lights are brighter!! Think of the distance crowds are away. Was the person who blinded the girl nose to nose with her?
Same reason why rock bands allow photos -by press-on first 3 songs of a show only;so they aren't pictured looking sweaty and dishevelled.

One reason I can see for not wanting flashes during KA.... many of the safety and programming protocols for the gantry stage unit use infrared to measure performers' location.

Regarding the lighting design.... All of the Cirque shows go through rigorous cue rewrites because of show lighting that is distracting to the performers. I remember when Verekai was teching several years ago, the Icarian Games performers encountered some problems with overhead lights blinding them.
