Looks wonderful and the pricing will definitely keep it out of the hands of the curious only.

This is not speculation. I have actually owned one and sold it. That does not mean I did not like it. Anyone who knows me very well knows that I am pretty much a reseller of apparatus with an abnormal need to know how everything works. That need is SO abnormal that often I will purchase an item, even an expensive one like this, just to know, for real, how it works. This was one such purchase and I have since sold it to a very happy customer who is really into mentalism. So, I am speaking from on hands experience with the prop, not guessing and fishing.
First, it does exactly what t says it will do and it comes as no surprise to me that it has fooled countless well-versed magicians. It is a radical, and excellent, approach to the classic prediction which also comes as no surprise having been developed by David Pavlov who created an equally radical and equally ingenious Mirror Penetration last year. What distinguishes it from all the others is that the chest that has been in full view since well before the effect even begins, can be lowered directly into the hands of a spectator without the need for any funny tables or easels, etc. He, not you, opens it and removes everything. It is definitely for very special occasions only and is not one you'll just set up in your living room and do for friends. It is really intended for either real performers or avid collectors of magical apparatus of a mental vein. It is not intended for the occasional performer. When I sell predictions of this nature on eBay I can't believe how many times people ask, "Does it require an assistant?" No, you really foretell the future. Of course, it does. Someone has to write the prediction and set up the "work." Zimmerman's Master Prediction, Rich Bloch's Ultimate Prediction, Dreamvision, and all the best "onstage" predictions require an assistant to do the work unseen by the audience. Even if you used a keyloader type chest for a "Dream Date" or "Dream Car" onstage prediction presentation, you would require an offstage assistant. So, yes, this does require an assistant. The price is high and will keep it well out of the hands of the curious. But, it is one of the very few magic tricks where you will see the apparatus and actually wonder how it could be sold this reasonably. Material-wise and mechanically speaking you definitely get your money's worth. This is not the usual case of paying $100 for the trick and $3,000 for the secret! This is a marvelous blend of physics, sophisticated mechanics and high end electronics all in one. I don't want to give away anything about it, as that wouldn't be fair, but I do want to warn you, again, that this is not for everyone, and it is not just an issue of price. It is a great effect, a masterful method, but does have certain requirements that not every performer or venue can meet. If, however, you do regular professional shows and can afford it, this could be a memorable routine for your program. For the fishers, as with most magic tricks, there is a reason for everything about it, so if you read and re-read the description you might get a grasp of what you are buying. The engineering is flawless and if you think what you might be thinking is impossible, you are probably wrong. |

I agree fully with Roth. Flinnermagic is a daily "must read" for me... and sorely missed when he has nothing listed.

Could the performer and assistant be one and the same, and does the chest HAVE to be suspended, I wonder ...?

I've told all the details I intend to give and have given enough information for anyone to seriously decide whether or not he wants to take the plunge, so I won't answer further questions. You could write Dave Pavlov and perhaps he might respond with answers.
But, the one thing I did want to point out is that we all often think like magicians. And, that includes me, unfortunately. I mentioned the thing that distinguished this from all others is the fact that the chest is lowered directly into the hands of a spectator rather than onto a table, etc. Frankly, that is a distinction that only we magicians would probably recognize and appreciate. The Zimmerman Master Prediction, for example, for real world people, is probably just as effective and it makes sense to lower that chest onto a table so it does not come across as a suspicious procedure or as "the moment". You have to decide for yourself if that difference is worth the price to you or if you can present the effect in such a manner that you could emphasize that fact well enough to make it a strong point of your routine, rather than arousing suspcion by bringing it up in the first place. |
